Some of my best work in this thread. Obviously the mods should leave this thread to itself in anticipation of our triumph in Rio in 2014. We kick off our campaign in the second and final round of Asian qualification against away to Oman tonight. It seems that Osieck has decided to start North again, which could come back to bite us on the arse. I'd be happy with a draw since we lost to the Omanis last time we played there.

Japan on Tuesday is the big game.

If Hodgson is still England boss at 2014, then i'd say Australia has a better chance than England.

This far off, I'd only make a prediction like this for one team, and that's Brasil.

They've only hosted the World Cup once, and the loss in the final to Uruguai made them more hated than Argentina for a while.
They most definitely are going to go all out to win it this time around.

Saudi Arabia tried calling me up to the team after they saw this picture, big deal.

    You look like General Aladeen.

We drew 0 all last night in Oman, which isn't a bad result considering the sweltering conditions and the fact that Osieck made a few strange decisions with the line-up. Japan have won 2 from 2 so we need a win on Tuesday to keep in touch.

I hope so. He had a decent year for Utrecht this season but he needs to kick on if he is to fulfill his potential.

Terrific game tonight against brilliant Japanese side. We could easily have been a goal or two up at half time and were handling them pretty well until the send off, which was a ridiculous call (almost as ridiculous as Holger putting Milligan on in the first place).

After that Japan took full advantage of the extra space to go ahead and it looked like we were down and out. However, you can never discount the fighting spirit of Australia and we got ourselves right back into the game eventuating in that dodgy penalty call, but I guess we deserved some luck after the send off. Og hit the bar and Wilkshire almost got his second from a free kick but we just couldn't find the winner.

A draw isn't exactly a great result for us but on the balance of the game I'll take it. Now we need to win our other home games and do well away from home and we'll be on our way to Brazil. Timmy Cahill was an absolute star tonight for us as was Honda for Japan who is a superstar. Kagawa did well in patches but Honda runs the show for the national team.

All in all a great advert for international football.

True that. It seemed like he was just making things up in the last 20 minutes.

Scotland 3-1 Australia  What happened?! Scotland lost 5-1 against USA in their last game!

The only other nations Scotland managed to put 3 goals past in the last 4 years are Wales, Nothern Ireland and the Faroe Islands. Over that period, even if you include last nights game, they have averaged less than a goal per game (33 goals in 34 games = 0.97 goals per game).

They haven't scored more than 3 goals in a game for nearly 6 years (6-0 v Faroe Islands, 2nd September 2006).

This round of friendlies was interesting. Germany was totally trampled by Argentina; Holland lost 4-2 to it's neighbor, Belgium; Brazil comfortably won 3-0 against Sweden; and Russia didn't manage more than a 1-1 draw against the Ivory Coast.

I'm really looking forward to 2014.
