maybe there is something in it? Its not good leaving Berba hanging off with 12 months left on his contract, Maybe fergie actually wants to get rid of him.

If were not giving him an extension to his contract then surely were selling him this window or jan, i can't see United being stupid enough to let him walk free in a year, that's really bad business. Mind you we sold brown for 1m and he's easily worth four or five.

Of course it helps those who want to speculate over his future when they ignore the fact that United can extend his contract by a year at any point. Seeing as it's United's policy to only offer 1 year extensions to players over 30 why do some expect him to be offered a new 2 or 3 year contract?

Trying to make something out of nothing just like they did last year.

    Agendas.

And you kindly forget that players over 30, who have spent at least 3 years in the same club without signing a new contact, can leave for a transfer sum equal to the wages of their remaining contract (1 or 2 years if Man United decides to exercise the option).

This is the same rule Inter wanted to exploit when trying to go for Lampard few years ago.

Like ... big deal if Manchester United uses the clause or not, it is still going to be peanuts of a transfer fee for Berbatov this or come next summer.

Hey, actually, for what I know, if Manchester United decides to sell now, Berbatov could negotiate with a club to buy him off for an year of wages exploiting the FIFA rule and get a hefty signing fee himself.

So, how you do sell a player that wants to stay in your club in that situation? You:

    1. Either gently convince the player he would be better off somewhere else (and that won't be money wise coz he would get more if he leaves, nor trophy wise considering the rumoured options), or,
    2. You don't sell and have the player play for your club 2 more years (which is exactly what Berbatov wants).

Manchester United should have signed a contract with Berbatov months ago, even if they were planning to force him out. Currently, the club's negotiating position is undermined not only ethically (throwing a loyal player out), but financially as well.

Berbatov has never gave any indication that he wishes to leave United, in fact on the contrary he's stated he'd like to finish playing here and he'd rather retire than play anywhere else. Why are people obsessed with how much we may or may not get for him, we didn't sign Berbatov for resale value.

If we decide to activate the extension, then he'll stay for another year, if then we decide we want him for another year he'll sign another extension, just like everyone else over 30.

theres enough games a season, even for a "squad player" at United.... and why not try Berba / Chicha / Rooney in games against smaller teams.

If he´d wanted to leave he had said that in the fist days after the CL final. The opposite was the case "stay and fight for a place".

So what are some of you expecting from Berbatov this season?
What's going to make you step back and say alright i'm glad we kept him for this season.

Goals / assists / link up play / improvement on the break / match winners...

For some, literally nothing he does will ever be good enough.

He's the most maligned, scrutinised and over analysed player I think there has ever been.
