    Fergie's praise for improving Berba
by Tom Kell, 21 October 2008

After seeing Dimitar Berbatov pay off another small chunk of his £30 million pricetag with two goals against Celtic, Sir Alex Ferguson admitted that he feels the Bulgaria striker is bringing an added dimension to Manchester United.

Both of Berbatov's strikes in the 3-0 win over Celtic were borderline offside, but both stood and, coupled with yet another goal for Wayne Rooney, helped United to keep their place at the top of Champions League Group E.

United were rampant for much of last season's double-winning campaign thanks to the fluidity of Rooney, Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo, but it was no secret that Ferguson still had his eyes out for something else.

Berbatov, it seems, is that something else.

"He is bringing that composure to the final third of the field,†Ferguson told ITV.

“Hopefully the combination is developing with not only Wayne but also Carlos, but he had a little hip injury tonight so we took him off."

Meanwhile, as is custom for goalscorers, Berbatov shrugged off doubts that his goals should have stood and hailed his improvement under Ferguson's charge.

"It was great for me to score again here and importantly we won the game,†he said.

"I will improve, that's why I'm here at the biggest club and everything is working right at the moment.

"You must be always 100 percent in the game and that's what I'm doing, in the past I lacked that in some games."

    Quote from guardian.co.uk /after Man Utd - Celtic/

The paradox about Berbatov is that there are still times when he seems on a different wavelength from his new team-mates. He is, however, capable of some of the most exquisite touches. The little flick that took the ball past Artur Boruc for the opening goal was the most damaging for Celtic, but the one that really oozed quality arrived four minutes later when he nonchalantly jabbed out his right boot to bring down a goal-kick dropping from the sky.

It is in those moments that you can forgive him for occasionally looking like he does not quite understand why everyone else is running around so much.

    Spelly's praise for improving Berba

Im glad to say that the first half last night Berbatov played an impressive attacking football and were decent in defending the own goal.

The goals is that what impresses me the least. Last night he was running to get the ball. Giving the guy on the ball options when we were attacking or counter attacking. He tormented the defence with intelligent passes.

If Dimi plays like this each and every game both the Abu Dhabi and Abu Ramovic will **** their pants because United will be unstoppable.

That acknowledgement from him is music to the ears and can only bode well for a very bright future in our colours. Think the conversion of the non-Berbatov camp from the summer has already commenced. :D :p

He is a wonderful outlet for the other attacking players and as he demonstrated in the first half, you can give him the ball even when he's surrounded by players, because he can keep it under pressure AND still create a goal-scoring opportunity for himself or a team mate.

Wonderful ball control and composure. Cool as ice/as you like/a cucumber in front of goal.

His work rate last night wa good and his National coach will be ****ed off, becuase it was much higher than when he played for Bulgaria last week.

Good stuff from Dimitar in deed.

    FERGUSON HAILS 'TERRIFIC' BERBATOV

Sir Alex Ferguson is confident record signing Dimitar Berbatov will make a big impact at Manchester United.

The £30.75million Bulgaria captain bagged his second successive brace in Champions League combat on Tuesday night, following up his double in Aalborg last month with two in United's comfortable home win over Celtic.

It took Berbatov's overall tally to five, with Ferguson seeing signs that the 27-year-old is becoming fully integrated into Old Trafford life.

"Dimitar produced some fantastic pieces of football," said Ferguson.

"The players are starting to understand what type of player he is a bit more now.

"I always feel he produces passes that mean something. Three or four of them were absolutely superb and overall he has five goals for us already, so he is making a terrific contribution."

in this game expecially, berba reminded me of cantona style of football. Something i have been saying is that we lacked that player upfront who can keep the possesion going in tight quick football passing situations and looking for the right pass allowing midfield to gather and get forward.

i have to admit that i havent felt like watching a player like berba since cantona. Its like you would watch cantona play and see what unexpected thing cantona will do, this was the same as berba last night i just wanted to watch what berba was about to do. And he acted as a RVN player, he was there in the box in the right place at the right time, ok maybe he needs to see the last defense line but who cares.

On second thought and just for laughs, if you were NOT from the Berbatov camp but are now, slowly and surely, taking into Berbatov, you may like to openly 'say your oath and pledge your allegiance' here. Nothing shameful; we were honest then and we are just being honest now. Afterall, it is a joyful conversion/occasion as a United fan. :D :D

Abo? CROooney? RFR? RD? Haggler? ........

    New Converts To Berbatov-ism

    1. Versa.
    2.

P.S. Jazz, Captain of the Berbatov camp, I think I did promise I will do something if I change my views. Hope this would suffice. :p

But as long as you are "slowly and surely, taking into Berbatov" like you obviously had when you were previously not, you may like to join the list. :p ;)

    Rooney delighted with blossoming Berbatov

Wayne Rooney is already looking forward to a New Year's clash against Chelsea at Old Trafford and says his Manchester United team are ready to close the gap in the title race.

Striker Rooney inspired in-form United to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Celtic in the Champions League last night, scoring for the seventh game in a row for club and country, while strike partner Dimitar Berbatov also struck twice.

The duo's blossoming partnership, their goals have helped United win six games in a row, augurs well for United's challenge at home and in Europe. And although they are six points behind leaders Chelsea in the Premier League, Rooney says his team are ready to make the 2009 title race a real battle.

He said: "We knew this was going to be a difficult start to the season but thankfully we're not too far away from Chelsea in the league with our game in our hand.

"It will be very interesting when we play each other after Christmas [on 10 January] and we're looking forward to it already."

Addressing his personal run of fine form, Rooney added: "I'm doing well at the minute and enjoying myself so I hope it can continue.

"I don't know what's changed. I haven't got a clue - but I'm scoring goals. I'm starting to play a lot higher up the pitch and maybe attacking defenders a bit more than I was at the beginning of the season, so perhaps that is it.

"We have brilliant strikers here and they are helping me. Berba did really well last night and Carlos Tevez came on and looked sharp and created a goal for me, too."

Former Tottenham star Berbatov (right) is settling into his stride at Old Trafford with four goals from four matches even though both efforts last night looked offside.

Rooney said: "Everyone knows what he can do. His touch is brilliant, he creates chances and gives you a bit more space on the ball. He's doing really well and starting to score more goals, which is great."

lol - 6-7 goals he scored can't change my mind that we overpaid him...he's a very gifted player but let us wait and see how much he has to offer
but i can tell you this much - he offers us something different and it is great to have those options we have !

The problem before last night was to get the ball to him. Be hardly streched out his leg to get the ball so if the ball wasnt ON his feet he didnt get the ball...yeah a bit harsh yes but not a totally wrong picture.
Yesterday he ran out on the right wing a few times to give Nev a free man to give the ball to and he even tried to find space between the centre backs as he probably never done since he played for CSKA Sofia....or at least very early in his career.
If this was his turning point in his United career I say it again. Abu Dhabi and Abu Ramovic will **** their pants and buy every player who can be bought for money to try to stop United. We have a player like Tevez on the bench. Thats an attack no other team have right now and I dont think any have had in history. MAYBE AC Milan had it in the early days of 1990's with The Flying Dutch trio and Savicevic....but our attacking force is probably more terrifying since we can play with all of ours at the same time if Fergie wish.

Maybe £30,5M is the price you have to pay for a striker today with some amount of skill and who can score.
Look at what others paid for players. Fools paid 20 for Robbie Keane. Al Ciddeh paid x for a brazilian kid. This was all before the Lehman Brothers scam was announced to the public and the CEO's from AIG went to blow $500k on a party.

Think about it, we paid £18K for an injured midfielder who has been working a lot with the physio. About the same money for a portguese who maybe not have it what it takes for PL? And approx the same for a Brazilian kid who havent yet scored for us.
So the price tag dont say much other then how eager you are to get the guys name on the contract.
If we had left Spuds in the cold and had gone for Abo's pet instead maybe Levy had returned the calls and let the guy go for less. Its a game you play and I think Levy called Fergies bluff and knew he would squeeze out a few extra millions since Dimi was the only target this summer.
So over paid or not...Fergie signed what he believed was missing and if he got him for £3M or £30M is not the issue here since its not your money or my money he spend. So dont get blind on the money. Fergie got what he wanted for a X money. If Dimi now get going and he will improve the team he would be worth any price. If the team wont improve with a new signing that player would be overpriced even from the first pound we paid.

    lol Good man Versa. :p
i expect it will take the others a while to convert over, mainly due to stubborness
but all will be good in the end.
Cheers for the early change of heart. Now I need to work on the others ;)

Nothing to do with Huntelaar though and I reserve my right to start a transfer thread on him at the end of the season. Let's see how the season ends first. :p
