The skill level in boxing is so intriguing when they throw a few punches and then hug, its incredibly entertaining watching a ref break up 2 dudes bearhugging for 2 hours.
Love most combat sports, but i've seen a fair few MMA fights that involved 3/5 rounds of missionary position....
Go to my MMA thread, and find the links I've posted, watch those and then come back. Or just watch UFC 100, or any other PPV for that matter.
slow your roll.... i've watched loads of UFCs, been watching MMA for about 3 years i said a fair few, not all - just like not all boxing matches are hugfests, but some are....
They are in no way a simular fighter to tyson not in size or anything, both are a good 4-5 inch's taller and don't fight in anything like the same style. Lewis avenged both loses and most peopel would coutn those fights as lucky punch's rather than lewis being badly beaten or outboxed something which happened to tyson even around his prime.
Not crazily big but yes a big fan. Tyson was an incredible fighter. Obviously though he was an entirely different proposition after the prison sentence though. If he had met Lewis at his peak he would have battered him.
I fancy tyson in his prime against lewis too but people sometimes underrate lewis. He was a brilliant boxer, very smart. Tyson was brilliant too, at his young age he was something else. People will always talk of tyson for what he did in his prime always. He was superb. Boxing is pretty great to be honest still, but moreso in the welterweigh divisions. The super6 competition though with jermaine taylor, froch, kessler etc sounds interesting though. What exactly is the story with that?!? How do u win?! Is it over a prolonged period of time or something? I never have heard about how this competition works! Oh and congrats to khan for winning. pz!
All the evidence seems to point to lewis beating him, tyson didn't batter alot of heavyweights lewis's size with half lewis talent but he can batter lewis
Tyson, pre-prison, would have done a number on lewis. Lewis wouldn't have been able to keep him at bay simply with his long jab and in the end Tyson would have just been too ferocious for him.
Utter rubbish, lewis got the better of tyson in sparring before tyson even became champion and if tyson couldn't ko mitch green, james smith, tony tucker all tall range fighters who were not in the same league as lewis why would he ko lewis. Tyson never beat a great fighter anywhere near there prime or prime weight and lost to most of the better fighters that stood upto him. Also saying lewis had only the lon jab to keep him at bay is laughable lewis had a big right hand and a monster uppercut that could keep him back, if anything lewis is a bigger puncher than tyson over 1 shot as well.
You really think so??? People who know a lot more about boxing than you or I say that only Shavers may have come close to Tyson's power, maybe....
No they don't, people who know alot more about boxing than you or i don't say anything of the sort, tyson wasn't the biggest one shot punchers ever, the reason he was so good at the time was he could throw 3-4 massive shots in a short space of time were as the likes of lewis, foreman, shavers etc would throw one shot that was harder but it would only be one shot not three or four thats the difference. Even if you look at more modern fighters david tua not as great fighter but his one shot left hook is up there with the most powerful shots of all time however he is not as good a puncher as tyson even if he could throw one shot with more power.
Ali didn't call Foreman a ''mummy'' for no good reason - your point about 3-4 massive shots was probably most true of him... He wasn't fluid enough in his movement to throw one big shot anywhere near as hard as Tyson... Agree to disagree....
We will have to agree to disagree but i will say this i post on some of the biggest and most recognised boxing forums on the net and the general opinion of the more knowledgable and seasoned posters sways closer to my thinking.:specool:
Lewis didn't have that much of a powerful punch. Tyson was definately the harder hitter. Foreman has a stronger punch than both put together.
