So who's been following the one day series? Fantastic knock from Eoin Morgan again today. He must be pressing for a Test place by now. The Tigers were unlucky though as Moggy was lbw at least twice before he'd even reached his fifty...good match, perhaps not the best cricket but it was tense and exciting.
yeah, good excercise, but Bangladesh are coming back to the UK soon, I'm not trying to be harsh, but it shows the direction in which the English cricket team is heading if youre playing against Bangladesh back to back
BBC SPORT | Cricket Scorecard Good start by England in the 1st Test against Bangladesh today with Jonathan Trott still 175 not out at this moment in time.
England are steaming along, past 450 in their first innings. Trott is still batting, 217 not out! Trott at the double for England - npower Tests - England - News - ECB Full England team against Bangladesh: 1 Andrew Strauss (c) (Middlesex) 2 Alistair Cook (Essex) 3 Jonathan Trott (Warwickshire) 4 Kevin Pietersen (Hampshire) 5 Ian Bell (Warwickshire) 6 Eoin Morgan (Middlesex) 7 Matt Prior (wk) (Sussex) 8 Tim Bresnan (Yorkshire) 9 Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire) 10 James Anderson (Lancashire) 11 Steve Finn (Middlesex) 12th man Ajmal Shahzad (Yorkshire)
Great reply from Bangladesh so far, 134-1. The English bowlers are having no luck and there have been some great shots from the tourists. Definitely Bangladesh's session and we might just have a game on....
Bangladesh followed on and currently lead by about 130 on the final day, England need 4 wickets to force a run chase after Lunch, otherwise it's a draw imo. This Steven Finn is really impressive, I saw people comparing him to Glenn McGrath and I laughed, but in all honesty, he is metronomic like McGrath always was. I'm very surprised by just how good he is....
England win by 8 wickets. For me it's a toss-up between Trott and Finn for Man of the Match, thought that Bangladeshi opener who scored a century batted excellently in both innings.
BBC Sport - Cricket - Craig Kieswetter keeps England one-day spot England have retained Craig Kieswetter in their one-day squad ahead of next week's one-off match against Scotland and the NatWest Series with Australia. The explosive wicketkeeper-batsman was one of England's stars in their World Twenty20 success last month and has been selected ahead of Matt Prior. Alastair Cook, who led England against Bangladesh in the winter, has been left out while Ian Bell has been recalled. Stuart Broad and Paul Collingwood also return after they were both rested. The duo missed England's 2-0 Test series win over Bangladesh but will return for their first taste of international action for their country this summer against Scotland in Edinburgh on 19 June, with the first of six one-day internationals against Australia following three days later at The Rose Bowl. Of the 13-man squad, only Bell and captain Andrew Strauss, who takes up the one-day reins after he temporarily relinquished his leadership duties during England's winter tour to Bangladesh earlier this year, were missing from England's World Twenty20 Cup-winning squad. "The challenge facing the squad now is to maintain the form they showed over the winter against the world's number one side in 50-over cricket," said national selector Geoff Miller. Bell has been in excellent one-day form for Warwickshire in the Clydesdale Bank 40, scoring 340 runs in six matches at an average of 56.66. "He has performed well for Warwickshire this season in limited-overs cricket and worked hard to add a more positive, attacking approach to his game in the 50-over format," said Miller. South Africa-born Kieswetter made an instant impact at the top of the order when he was called up to England's one-day squad in Bangladesh in February, scoring a maiden hundred in the third international in Chittagong as the tourists wrapped up a 3-0 series win. And the Somerset stumper continued his rich vein of form in the short form of the game in the Caribbean, scoring 222 runs in seven matches including 11 sixes. "He has been earmarked for a role at the top of the order and I am sure he will be relishing the opportunity to test himself against high-quality opposition," said Miller. Another member of England's World Twenty20 squad to benefit in the one-day format is Michael Yardy, whose impressive bowling display in the Caribbean earned him a slot in the longer format of the game. "Michael Yardy's inclusion is a reward for performing consistently to a high level in the World T20 in the Caribbean and also reflects our longer term planning for a World Cup in the Indian sub-continent next year in which spin bowling will be a major feature," added Miller. "We have named a slightly smaller squad for this summer's NatWest Series than in previous years as our own programme closely mirrors the England Lions' schedule for their triangular series against India A and West Indies A." All-rounder Tim Bresnan returns after missing the second Test win over Bangladesh because of a stress fracture in his left foot, but there is no place for Yorkshire team-mate Ajmal Shahzad, who made his five-day debut at Old Trafford last week, or batsman Ravi Bopara. England squad to face Scotland and Australia: Andrew Strauss (c) (Middlesex) James Anderson (Lancashire) Tim Bresnan (Yorkshire) Ian Bell (Warwickshire) Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire) Paul Collingwood (Durham) Craig Kieswetter (Somerset) Eoin Morgan (Middlesex) Kevin Pietersen (Hampshire) Ajmal Shahzad (Yorkshire) Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire) Luke Wright (Sussex) Michael Yardy (Sussex) Players Not Involved: Kabir Ali (Hampshire) James Allenby (Glamorgan) Tim Ambrose (Warwickshire) Ian Blackwell (Durham) Ravi Bopara (Essex) Michael Carberry (Hampshire) Alastair Cook (Essex) James Dalrymple (Glamorgan) Mark Davies (Durham) Steven Davies (Surrey) Joe Denly (Kent) Steve Finn (Middlesex) Andrew Flintoff (Lancashire) James Foster (Essex) Steve Harmison (Durham) Matthew Hoggard (Leicestershire) Geraint Jones (Kent) Simon Jones (Hampshire) Ed Joyce (Sussex) Robert Key (Kent) Amjad Khan (Kent) Jon Lewis (Gloucestershire) Mal Loye (Northamptonshire) Michael Lumb (Hampshire) Sajid Mahmood (Lancashire) Dimitri Mascarenhas (Hampshire) Phil Mustard (Durham) Paul Nixon (Leicestershire) Graham Onions (Durham) Monty Panesar (Sussex) Samit Patel (Nottinghamshire) Darren Pattinson (Nottinghamshire) Liam Plunkett (Durham) Matt Prior (Sussex) Mark Ramprakash (Surrey) Adil Rashid (Yorkshire) Chris Read (Nottinghamshire) Owais Shah (Middlesex) Ryan Sidebottom (Nottinghamshire) Vikram Solanki (Worcestershire) James Taylor (Leicestershire) James Tredwell (Kent) Chris Tremlett (Surrey) Jonathan Trott (Warwickshire) Chris Woakes (Warwickshire) * 19 players in blue have central England contracts at present.
BBC Sport - Cricket - Ajmal Shahzad called into England one-day squad Shahzad replaces Sidebottom in the England ODI squad. I've edited the list in post #11.
We're all talking about one England team desperate to win in the World Cup. Meanwhile on the back of England's rugby victory over Australia at the weekend, our cricket team just beat Australia in the first one-dayer this afternoon / evening! Australia batted first and got 267-7 off their 50 overs. Clarke top-scored with 87. Jimmy Anderson, Stuart Broad and Luke Wright took two wickets apiece for England. And then England came in and knocked off the target with 4 overs to spare! Eoin Morgan was the star man hitting 103 not out off only 85 balls! Come on England!! (cricket, rugby, football, you name it!) BBC Sport - Cricket - Eoin Morgan leads England to one-day win over Australia
England beating Australia is getting to be a habit! BBC Sport - Cricket - Stuart Broad inspires England to win over Australia Australia batted first and got 239-7 from 50 overs. Stuart Broad's bowling figures were 4-44 from his 10 overs. Good job! Then England came in and knocked off the total, 243-6 with nearly 5 overs to spare. Andrew Strauss hit 51 and man of the moment, Eoin Morgan, got 52. Collingwood got 48 and Pietersen scored 33 runs so contributions were consistent down the order. With Broad batting at 10 in this team, we do have a good line-up. Well done England!
This... The man is awesome. Shame for Prior as i like him but Kieswetter is better, prefer Luke Wright a bit lower down the order, was a terrible opener but seems to have grown since his move down the order. Glad Anderson is in, missed him at the T20 Swan shirt number change from 69 to 66... Lad
I think Prior is a better wicket-keeper but Kieswetter is a better batsman, at least at one-day level. However Prior should be first-choice for the Tests all the same. For the Ashes, England must be favourites now.
