their the best 2 players i have seen since maradonna ,for me messi is the more complete player but ronaldo has more speed and power and is a more direct player in his quest for goals , in the long term i am sure ronaldo will bag more goals and he is the player i would most want back at utd (if only) ,but messi will produce more outstanding memories that all football fans will drool over in the forthcoming years.

I'm firmly in the Messi camp and will never leave but you can't base it on El Clasico as neither player showed their best. Although Messi was closer to his best. Maybe I think Messi is a better player as I prefer them sort of players. I would rather watch Messi as I prefer the genius ball control and incisive passing to strenght, pace and power. For example I would prefer Iniesta to Gerrard(at his best) and Villa to Drogba even though I think Drogba is a better player

Thats true, I guess when I made that comment I was referring more to his club form, where Ive seen him tare the **** out of some of the best clubs in the world, while Ronaldo can score a hat-trick against your everyday Almerias and Bilbaos, yet fails to show up against Barcelona or Chelsea for example. LOL...i'm of the ronaldo camp or always have been and wanted him again to do one over barcelona and messi tonight but once again, messi showed he is clearly the better player, not by much but he is and he is still only 23. Even when he is not scoring, he is tormenting teams of the class of madrid. But today in fairness to barcelona, it was one of the best team performances i have seen in a long long time. All of them performed. Both are brilliant and on any given day can be the best player in the world BUT messi is a more pure footballer..as in its slightly more natural to him whereas ronaldo is probably more versatile where he could fit more teams and play more positions maybe and still be as productive but not as pure a footballer as messi. Being more versatile does not mean better...or John O'shea would be a better player than xavi. Messi has only ever done it in spain whereas ronnie been immense in both england and spain but that does not mean he is a better player. When they play on the same pitch, when they have the ball, you can see messi is slightly ahead of him as a player...its just ridiculously natural to him, the game of football. There are days when ronaldo gets it all right and messi does not and ronaldo looks like the best player in the world but when both worlds collide and playing against top top opposition...messi still seems more effective than ronaldo Today again showed the things which messi is better than ronaldo at doing...first of all dribbling..ronaldo very rarely gets past a player or two in big games while dribbling...messi will walk past players so naturally with his left foot because his dribbling is top notch and so fast...Ronaldo is an amazing dribbler but compared to messi, it is not comparable and even against top class players, messi can get past 2 players like they were not there. Second of all vision...again being raised in the barca way means they play football like its a 5 a side game at times and because they love passing and moving and keeping it on the ground and playing through teams, vision is more natural to him...maybe its because his argentinian too...they have produced some of the best playmakers of recent times but yeah, in terms of vision, messi will cut open a defence more often than ronaldo and will do it more naturally. Some of his balls today where WORLD CLASS and even when he was not scoring like today, he put in a very very good performance. Anyone denying his performance just because he did not score is failing to see the beauty of how barcelona tonight played a perfect team game. They may not play like that often but it was ridiculous at times how amateur they made madrid look. And some people think xavi/iniesta are overrated lol... There are things which ronaldo does better than messi...he can head better, has a better weaker foot and is more powerful and has better free kicks but being more powerful did not make rooney a better player than ronaldo either. Messi is more clinical, better vision, better dribbler, close control, technique and passer. Ronaldo is quicker, better free kicks, headers, weakerfoot and a more powerful player. Both are amazing and in the same team would be devastating but as a single player, messi is slightly more natural the footballer. Hopefully Ronaldo and madrid get some revenge over barcelona in the return match and he finally puts in a performance against barcelona because he still has that united connection and i'll always support him for the amazing memories he gave me as a united fan but messi is slightly better imo. However if you put ronaldo in the english game, nobody here is touching him, On a side note, barcelona today were so good it as a joy to watch, not often do teams put in a performance like that. Ronaldo tore Spain a new one in the recent friendly, and was denied a wonder goal by Nani trying to poach it on the line. Maybe you're getting the 2 confused. Ronaldo has actually been pretty good for the NT of late, while Messi continues to struggle to make his impact felt apart from that goal against Brazil.

I didn't even know they played each other recently. He was their most influential player in SA, yes I'd agree with that. But they still went out meekly to Germany in the quarters without him scoring a single goal. Argentina impressed in the group stage, but didn't put up much of a fight in the knock out rounds. He was much better than Ronaldo at the world cup though.
It was a friendly but Messi did perform against Spain. Although you could argue that it wasn't a big game.
