You heard right! Didier Drogba, the former Prem League top scorer and all around talented player will be available for a FREE transfer in 76 days! What does this mean? Will he sign a new contract at Chelsea? Will he move to another big club in the Prem League? How about Manchester United? Could you picture a Drogba - Rooney combo? Or will he go to City and be benched next season? Or even Liverpool or Tottenham? What would having such a brilliant striker playing for the club do for those mediocre teams? Would he leave the Prem league? Will a MLS team jump in and throw a huge sum at Drogba? Or will he return to Anelka's side in China? Will money be a major factor in his decision? What do you guys think about this?
Drogba is 33 and would be looking for first team football on regular basis, unlike Del Piero, who is almost 38 and can serve the purpose of Berbatov on a lesser wage. Besides, we are not looking to house all the cheats in the premier league now, are we? Edit: There is less chance of this happening, then us signing Sneijder. Didn't SAF tell he wants to play fast, free flowing football? Drogba is not the answer for that.
Could imagine Drogba going back to France and end his career there. I think that Chelsea is going to be in full rebuild mode this summer, so don't expect him to stay there. I don't see Drogba in United, mostly due to his attitute, where he wants to be the single focus of the team, that is not how United works and besides United have Rooney for that.
Actually, he admitted once that he would love to play for United. He said, he'd have played for us at the age of 28 if we offered him. He was a childhood United fan, I guess.
He will go to China if Anelka wants him and if Shenhua pays him much. Heard that even Anzhi Makachkala were interested in him. IMO, he'll join the club that offers him the highest wages.
Yea, I have heard that Anelka expects to re-unite with his former strike partner over in China, and they still talk on the phone regularly. Even more convincing, that club is also saying they are saving Drogba's number for him, if he is to choose to join them. Plus it's a free transfer, so they will defiantly be tempted, and it would be a hell of a steal.
i would not want him, great player but one i hate. i think he will end up in china with anelka going by the rumours and the wages reported he will get.
Yea, about two season ago I loathed him and the rest of Chelsea, but I cannot deny his talent, and if it could help United, I would love to see it happen. But not sure he will be able to win over all the fans, or even be an effective buy, considering his age, but if he's willing to come over for cheap (he is a United fan after all according to a post above), then go for it SAF! But yea, I think China is most likely, especially since that club has so much money..
Vidic would snap him in half in training after the cheap shot during the CL final a few years back Drogba vvv
Anelka is managing that team in China now so I'd imagine he will do his best to bring Drogba out there. He did say he wanted to go back to Marseille one day though and considering the state they're in maybe he will think he can save them. If the pointers to a new style and formation are true then Utd won't be signing another striker let alone Drogba when Fergie is after more speed in attack.
Drog would be an awesome free transfer but not for us, we like to sign players who fit into the Utd way. Drog is the exact opposite of the personalities we need in the dressing room.
