Ezekiel Fryers is the ever-reliable and talented centre back / left back for our Reserve team, having been a member of the FA Youth Cup winning side in 2010-2011. He made his debut for United's First Team against Leeds United in the Carling Cup on 20th September, 2011. http://www.manutd.com/en/Players-And-Staff/Reserves/Ezekiel-Fryers.aspx :wave1:
Anyone with a name like that is bound to be good. He looks like a brute in that picture. Maybe he'll be more like the stuart pierce type.
Wonder what the lads call him for short? Zek, E, or maybe Fry? It's just the name Ezekiel doesn't exactly roll off the tongue when you're asking for a pass
'Zeki' (pronounced like you'd pronounce Becky or leccy). Just one point Moon - Zeki's only got U17 honours so far, he's yet to step up to the U18s (although they play so infrequently that's no shock - last game was 18 months ago). Wouldn't personally compare him with Evra, don't think he's got the attacking side to his game yet. Has looked very good defensively though, already showing signs of emulating Joe Dudgeon with his consistency and strength in the tackle.
I think I was just quoting Fryers as England U18 because they have him listed on their player profiles page for the Under 18's??: TheFA.com - Players I'd also agree that Fryers isn't an Evra-style attacking fullback. I think when I wrote the description I was just waxing lyrical and trying to evoke the possibility that one day Ezekiel might be in Patrice's league .... but also evoking the Frenchman's name as a "fellow left-back". Hopefully Fryers will make the step up to the Reserves over the next couple of seasons.
They seem to have just used an U17 squad from last season - Johnstone and Tunnicliffe are both listed too and they've not played for the U18s yet either.
So are they just watching the players get a year older and changing the logo on the teamsheet? "U17's ..... wait a minute, that was a year ago. They're the U18's now! Where's the Tippex?"
Seems like it Presumably just because there's so few U18 fixtures. The last genuine U18 squad will all be over-age by now.
He has all the attributes required to develop into an international footballer as he's fast, strong, athlethic, and he can defend. However, he needs to improve the attacking side of his game, especially his crossing. He gets into good positions whenever he ventures forward. But why 2018? That's a long time away. He'll be in his mid twenties.
No rush is there. He just named 4 players who he thinks are talented and could play in 2018. No reason why they can't play before then. Take Fryers , 18, in 2018 he'll be 26. Hypothetically let's say he breaks through at united at 21, 2/3 years of experience before getting international call up, and 2/3 from then he'll be experienced enough to be a starter. It's all ifs and buts but thats a decent timescale, especially because he's at a club like united.
