I get all the different nuances of tis, I dislike the chainmail grief/sympathy thing on facebook/Twitter/email etc, my sister is into that and its even more irritating because of the other stuff, the instructions to selete a file that is actually an important windows system file 'because its a nasty virus' or post the letter F if your my friend and actually read this, the invites to games I dont want to play the exhortations to admire so and so because hes got through life with no legs and so on, I hate being told by the same person 90 times to say the same prayer for the same non existent victim of the same none existent injustice or why the democrats are filthy comunist scum because they temselves have had it 90 times and passed it on to everyone that theyve friended and then I get it 90 times each from another 90 of the friends I made when I was daft enough to stay up all night playing Starfleet commander as well as the friends of my sister who have also friended me for some reason.
But then again, what Red issue did was insensitive and badly timed, it didnt look good and they could have been smarthat er, they should have known huge elements of the media is looking for escuses to clobber United and United fans.
Muamba had a hoorific ordeal and yes millions of others have had the same or worse happen to them, but not on TV in front of millions of people there's bound to be a big public response.
As for religion, that should be kept between you and your God as far as Im concerned, and as long as you and I respect each others beliefs then all is fine in the world. BUT there are too many people out there who think that its their god given duty to tell others in what and how they should believe and that those others are bad people who need to be destroyed for their beliefs. Or their religion might be oppressive, or exploitative I think then I have every right to criticise

Sal, I never took you for an idealist! Also coming from such a big supporter of #anonymous (hacktivists) I'm genuinely surprised to see you say that! It's an interesting idea and probably would have prevented many problems but because of the speed in the technological and (dot).com boom in the late 90's there was never time to create a 'code of conduct' on the internet and people have virtually governed themselves. Legislation is notorious for being slow to catch up to modern society; women's rights in law firms are still way behind the current 'norms and customs' of other corporations, at least in North America (pay equity, maternity leave being frowned upon, that sort of thing). In 5-15 years, the signs are pointing that there will be more control over the internet; one place where I think we can all agree will be welcomed - is more cooperation between nations to hunt down and prosecute the spread of paedophile material by individuals on the internet.

There's reasons behind different sites to be anonymous or be the real person.
Facebook, Twitter and other social network site should not be anonymous since they are intended for keeping in touch with real life family and friends.
Places like forums, Chan, anon etc people are lucky if they actually know 2 or 3 in real life unless it is a close knit forum of course. (FCUM for example).

I think there will be more control over the internet long before 5 years, I've already seen many more controls come into place in just the last year.

The bolded part I doubt anyone will disagree on, except for the paedophiles, but you'll never eradicate it as there's always the deep web.

What happened with Muamba is the same about Kony and Whitney etc.... Probably my biggest regret in life that my FB was not working during the Kony crises, man I would have loved to have a Kony PP.

I f**king hate these 'modern PC law abiding citizens' attitude. OMG boycott RI omggg terrible tastee :'( dey usez da pics of da plyr on da graund and inslted tweetar :'( :'( boycot dem xD bad teste.

The people who believe that what RI did is wrong and of a terrible taste, is the same reason why paedophiles and serial killers are living among us instead of rotting in their graves. You're the reason why capital punishment and all the great laws are no longer around. You're the reason humanity is going backwards.

I'd hazard a guess that many of the people who are moaning about people finding it poor taste would be the same people who'd be the first out with pitchforks if a Liverpool fanzine did it.

It is in poor taste, not because of the point made, but because of the way it was depicted. To mock the situation, the very image of Muamba laying there isn't right IMO.

Obviously you can't see that they are NOT mocking the situation, rather they are mocking people for their fake grief and the idiots who run straight to twitter and facebook posting how 'devastated' they all are.

No doubt all the national and international media using the very same image of Muamba laying there isn't right either.

They are mocking the situation, obviously it's not what they're intending to highlight, but when you put speech bubbles on players while they're devastated and concerned for their team-mate IS mocking the scenario albeit to make a different point, that's the major gripe I have with it. I have yet to see a major media outlet doing anything remotely simlar.

Are you seeing a different picture to everybody else ?

The speech bubbles are not on the players, they are on the crowd.

and I'll leave you to guess what people in the crowd were posting on twitter and facebook from inside the ground. Not hard to guess.

It's the same thing, the same picture and the same effect. They should have just left that alone and made their point without it. Nothing wrong with their point, in fact I'd agree with it, but it's such a gutter journalism like move to use a picture of what was a very distressing situation as a comic book.

On the subject of the media, ESPN were exemplary. I know I keep going on about when Ayrton Senna died - but it's a good parallel with various countries' media. BBC cut away (as ESPN did once they realised Muamba was gravely in trouble) yet the italian broadcaster at Imola zoomed in on the resuscitation and extraction procedures on Ayrton Senna, graphically showing the pooling blood and even having a TV helicopter circling for maximum clarity.

It's the same argument about the pictures used - there are pictures of Owen Hart's death that out of respect were never published - in this day and age though, I don't think they'd stay secret - or for example pictures of Lady Diana in the wrecked mercedes.

The media in general has very few scruples these days, because principles aren't as strong as money.

Regarding Red Issue, the way they tried to make (what actually is a valid point) was ham fisted at best - and unfortunately did appear to be senseless and needlessly insensitive, even if that wasn't the intention.
