It comes down to Fergie not being willing to pay what it takes to get the players we need, and using that red herring as a security blanket to hide under, which leads to early exits from Europe and domestic cup competitions and being out played too often which cost United more than biting the bullet and paying the bills would have done, A bit like saying 20k to replace your roof is not good value then it costing 10 times as much when the roof falls off taking the walls too
well if losing the title to Man City isn't the kick up the ass he needs then i dont know what will take for him to spend big.
We thought the same way about losing Ronaldo, about the 2010 CL final and the 2011 CL final, but they weren't. Lets hope that the signing of Kagawa is a sign that hes now felt and reacted in the right way to the kicks
well he has no alternative other than to react. Be surprising to see who's the next incoming transfer.
I am still convinced baines is not the player for us to take over the reigns from evra because he is NOT better than him. Maybe in terms of competition but is he worth the investment when he have more pressing matters and is not a long term answer either. Ashley cole is still way better than him and evra on his top form was immense, the guy taking over has to have that sort of potential in my opinion. As for 72 million...I doubt he has the choice of spending that much lol...Prove us wrong....just on better targets. pz!
I think Baines is better than Evra is now, maybe not a couple of years ago but they have since changed as players. Baines is pretty solid in defence, usually picks a sensible pass and is very good at overlapping and getting good crosses into the box. The thing is, Baines is far from perfect but the left back position is probably the weakest in world football at the moment. There aren't many good options out there but Baines is one of the better ones - plus he is used to the league and already speaks the language which is a small benefit. Other players that have been mentioned are Valencia's Alba and Bayern's Alaba, but Alba looks fairly certain to go to Barcelona and there's no way Bayern are going to sell a 19 year old that's already a first team regular for them. So all things considered, I think it'd actually be fair to be that Baines is as good an option as any for us for a left back signing.
I know my opinion on this matter is in the minority on here but I still do not think he is a better player than evra. Even now in my opinion when evra is on form he is the better player to me. He is quicker, better agility, better technically, better fitness, better attacking sense whereas I believe baines is overrated as a defender and is not very agile or a great attacker but he can deliver a peach of a ball into the box but in my opinion our left back needs to have more than that. Especially long term taking over from evra. We are not exactly a great team at the moment and I do not want to see us going further backwards or stagnating even more and baines just fits the bill for that in my opinion. If kagawa and baines are our only two signings this summer (plus possibly powel) in my opinion it'll have been a worse summer than last in terms of transfers. Only time will tell I guess buddy. pz!
Well even if you are right that Evra is better, the fact is that we need to sign a left back now with Fabio going out on loan and Evra coming towards the end, and Baines is probably the best option out there. And I wouldn't expect (hopefully) the signings to end with just Kagawa and a left back, I think there still should be another midfield signing on the way. Even if Fergie fails to recognise the weakness in our midfield, he will see that he has lost Fletcher and Hargreaves, probably selling Anderson and lost squad players in Pogba and Gibson, there is a void to be filled.
Rather play CARRICK than spend that much on a player who contributed about the same as the genius that is MICHAEL CARRICK FFS!
I might be shot by some on here but i dont think we need to buy any midfield players this summer if kagawa finalises his deal late this month, we have plenty of players playing for a few spots, i dont think fergie will clear out much this summer apart from Berbatov and Pogba leaving on his own accord, i think he will give anderson/park one more season and see how they go. I think baines and a striker is all we need this summer as well as kagawa and maybe nick powell too who would be for 3 to 5 years time. I'm getting tired of people acting like Scholes isnt here for the season ahead especially after how well he did, Giggs isnt finished either. If Cleverley and Anderson dont step up in the season ahead or have another season full of injuries, fergie will splash out next summer for a big star in CM.
Well the signing of Kagawa has certainly helped. Most people feel we need a strong enforcer-type player and have linked us to Dembele, Tiote, M'Vila and Asamoah. I think Carrick, Scholes and Kagawa is a good midfield and I do agree, we can't forget about Cleverley and Tunnicliffe coming through as well. Pogba may be leaving which is disappointing, but I think a lot now depends on Fergies thoughts towards how Fletcher is recovering and what to do with Anderson.
Fergie might not be spending £72m but I can see up to about £67m on players we are being strongly linked to... Kagawa - £12m (rising depending on appearances) Modric - £25m Baines - £15m or Alba - £15m Lewandowski - £15m and/or Henriquez - £3m and/or Powell - £4m Still think we need a midfield enforcer, think our squad is missing one and we would benifit from having a player of this mould for the right occation.
