This is easily the worst. I've complained about it many a time. The biggest thing is still the game freezing for me. Sometimes 10 times a game. That's like buying a bike that stops dead ever 2 miles. I'd take that back, yet for some reason because it's a game we can't. Should adhere to the same rules as anything else and company held responsible if it has such a enjoyment sucking flaw is evident and not fixed.

It's a common problem on the PS3 slims. I had a similar one with Fifa 10 except it stuttered as opposed to stopped completely. Thousands complained about it and they did nothing. Absolutely terrible. It's a complete disgrace the game has had 1 patch since release that for me fixed none of the bugs I had noticed.

I think it depends on the size of the HDD/the build of the system. Pretty sure mine was one of the first 250gb slims, where as my friend has a newer one with a different HDD and doesn't have the problem. HDcantona's did the same too. I've heard of people getting it on other systems, but the slim is the overriding one.

    Who have micro-pausing in game? - Xbox 360 & PS3 Discussion - FIFA 11: EA Forums

Winds me up on the comments. People assume that because they don't have it no one else should and because they do it's something they're doing wrong/something they've added/they can fix it. It's obviously a problem with a build of the PS3s and has been happening since 2009. It's not the PS3's problem though as other games work completely fine, it's some dodgy effed bit of EA code that causes issues on some consoles and not others.

This is a great post on it

Has anyone played virtual pro since they patched it? Is the AI better? I hadn't realised the last patch was meant to have fixed it. Only took them til the 16th of march...

Hmm, I've figured out how the 'regens' work in this...

Basically it's 2023 now and I'm managing Barcelona after a barron spell of no big clubs wanting me to manage despite my rep & achievements...

    and how it works is:

Whichever club the player is at when he retires, gets a new youth player with the same height/weight/nationality and ratio of skills, only he'll be 16/17/18 and will be a lower overall

Sometimes even the hairstyle is the same...

The brilliant thing is, you can basically then build a world XI from the 'clones' if you buy them cheap and young and develop them!

Yeah, stupid ******* system because there are a handful of players who retire each year until you're well into the game and none of them ever seem to be any good. I don't get how you developed your players so much either, mine seem to take an age to gain anything - it's rare that I get more than 5 or 6 gaining a point each year.

    Really?

I never managed more than 5 seasons, I easily get bored and start a new one.

the messi clone is 83 overall starting, as is the ronaldo clone I've found (who retired at spurs back when I was there and had bought him) they grow a certain amount each year, maybe 1 but by playing them and them getting good match ratings they grow too - albeit quite slowly. I think the career mode lasts just 15 seasons right? so it's too late for me to grow a World XI where I am right now, but after this transfer window, I have a bunch of youngsters, which is basically the clones of:

    -------------Valdes

    Sagna----Puyol----Pique-----Chiellini

    ---------Keita-----Xavi

    Ronaldo-----Iniesta-------Messi

    -----------Chicharito

 - few more years and they'll all be immense... with a bench of: Pedro, Clichy, Ibrahimovic etc!

BUT I do see your point and their starting rating directly corresponds with their overall before, which is why the best 'clones/regens' I've seen are the Ronaldo and Messi ones, and then other ones are a couple of points lower - but all the ones of the best players are 77+ to begin with, though J. Orozco (Chicharito) is 74.

    EDIT:

I got fed up of getting bored and starting over, so I sim a big amount of games now, and change clubs every couple of seasons or so to keep it fresh.

Also - it's interesting that it's the club the player retired at that get's the player, not the one he made most appearances for / started with etc.

Longest manager mode was 5 seasons

Aberdeen-Celtic-Tottenham-City-United that was in 09 and it froze when I managed United, it broke my heart as it was an awesome MM. When I took charge of United they finished 17th the previous season and the only big players they had were Rooney and Rio, the others retired while Evra, Vidic, Ronaldo and co all left.

The longest one in FIfa 10 I started as Ian Holloway Blackpool 2 seasons then Trabzonspor, then City then United.
Scholes, Giggs Neville and Edwin were all retired when I joined United and I signed Sneijder and Jovetic and had an awesome group stage at the CL facing Ajax, Inter and Real (all Sneijder's previous teams in one group ) then in January despite being the first in the league with 9 points difference and winning all games in CL group stages I got sacked after losing in the FA Cup (I played youth and ****ed up on penalties) and then lost 4-1 at home to West ham and got sacked after beating Liverpool 1-0 away from home. -.- ******* stupid game.

Yeah the manager mode in fifa 10 was buggered.

I'm surprised I didn't notice this system of retire & replace before, since they do it in PES without even changing the name! but in my defence this is the first time I've ever been anywhere near this far.

It gets boring past the 5th year, I usually start with lower leagues or midtable teams in big leagues and work my way to the top, I like to play most matches so I usually get bored by the 3rd or 5th season.

The development mode in 09 and earlier was awesome when you could pick the stats you wanted to improve, players made a hell of a lot more progress using that system as well. Essien had an average rating of about 8.5 for an entire season at Madrid and didn't gain a single point.

Is this system a new thing? I hated it in PES, I remember having a shitty Bergkamp and Nedved in my ML.

I miss the Academy in FIFA, it used to be awesome, it generate players from the nation your club is.

hmm... the only other thing I can think is maybe they only develop if played in a certain position (possibly the one they did before they retired) but that's just speculation.

The only evidence I can give on that is that at Marseille, I had Ayew, and he was 77 since a good 5 years (saw them in the CL) and then when I started playing him, and played him in the CAM role (i was a player short and he impressed) in 2 seasons he was rank 80
