For his price (not more than £10m he would be extraordinary. I wouldn't want Afellay if he cost anything over £20m.

Lots of rumours more recently about Arsenal, Liverpool and Barca being interested rather than us. Are we perhaps keeping a low profile in the hope of grabbing him on the sly? Or are we just not interested in the lad? Would be an odd one given in the summer he would be free which will reduce his transfer fee should we move for him in January. I know he is cup tied now in Europe but he would still be worth signing rather than risking it until the summer when it will be a free for all. The lad is a Dutch International and so surely has to be looked at?

    £20m?

Pulling stuff out your ass again, the guy is only linked because he has 1 year remaining, cut-price is essential...

Can you read? I said I wouldn't pay anything more than £20m for him.

    You need some reading lessons.

    So why mention £20m?

He won't go for anywhere near that amount, like i said, you pulled the figure out of your ass, just like the "extra-ordinary" comment. He was below average at World Cup and hasn't always been good enough to start for PSV...

Oh dear. I said I would pay anything more than £20m which means I DON'T VALUE HIM FOR MORE THAN £20m IT MEANS ME, MYSELF DON'T THINK HE DESERVES MORE THAN £20m I USED THAT FIGURE TO POINT OUT HOW MUCH I WOULD PAY FOR HIM. MEAINING THAT I WOULDN'T PAY MORE THAN £20m FOR HIM.

Paper talk - he'll be linked with everyone until he actually does a deal. I think we're more likely to get/go after Stephen Defour.

Yeah perhaps we will be but given that this lad is in the last year of his contract then he has to be worth a look. For clubs like Barca to look at him (if of course you believe the papers) then that shows the quality this lad has. Don't get me wrong it could all be pure paper talk and absolutely no substance to this at all but I think given the amount of top teams after him there must be some truth.

    No official word yet but

Ibrahim Afellay will join Barcelona this winter, says Voetbal International. Transferfree next summer, so help PSV to some dough.

If we don't even try and buy him and Fergie still complains about there being a lack of value in the transfer market I will seriously start to question his decisions.

I seriously doubt we will make a move for this lad, for some reason we seem to pass up on the opportunity to sign a very talented young player for next to no money. Completely agree though that Fergie can not complain about a lack of value in the transfer market having missed out last year on Ozil which was a real bargain turned down.

I'm gonna keep faith with fergie. I reckon he has something up his sleeve.
I remember years ago when we were desperate for a half decent keeper and Chris woods (who was a top keeper) became available. fergie simply went out an bought an tall, unknown danish international who went on to become a legend.

I only mention it because at that time we were as deperate for a keeper as we are now for a strong midfielder

It really amazes me how many people say we missed out on Oezil and VDV. In all honesty those two would not have the same success at Manchester United like they're having with their new and current teams. Oezil plays in the softest league in the world period. La Liga with all do respect is a two horse race in terms of team talent. Oezil is lucky enough(Fook RM) to play for 2nd best coach in the world and plays in-front of two DMC that are Blooming and some of the most talented top rated in that position. Oh and lets tack on C. Ronaldo, Di Maria, Higuain ect. He Ozil is good but is fluffed and put in a Jesus like light because location, team and coach. He has ok vision can break out of the mid and provide ok weighted passes 1/3rd of the time, but when it counts ala Champion league and Barca classico the book title will change from where is waldo to where is oezil.

VDV is over hyped and has no room to grow, luck for him he found a team that needed an experience middle of the road Amc to run off of big Couch. Not to mention he is always fighting for fitness it seems. I highly doubt he would be lout the room if he was on our squad to perform. He doesn't play with the pace and movement that United requires. 8 million dollar bench warmer(and if we were interested see price hike 4 million, 12 million for a bench warmer)? Same situation as RM, to old not good enough for SAF's play no thanks. Plus leaves the door open for chuncks ;)

Back on topic Afelley is gearing toward Spain according to all the rags, which is a awful move for him but what yeah going to do.
Price has gone up due to top clubs interest; but anything higher then 12m is over paying for a unproven commodity. But I agree i can see a total deal being done for 16-20million by the banks of Spain. Leaving the market all fooked up again.

Defour seems to be the ticket. :wave1:

Van der vaart would have been a waste here, cant play in a 4-4-2 which would have meant that he was only going to be an option against stronger sides or in Europe. The same applies for Ozil sadly.

In all fairness even if we went for him(we might have. none of us know) he would stilll have picked Barca so everyone stop complaining. You have to realise that these days 9 times out of 10 a player would pick Barcelona
