Latest name to be linked to us but what caught my attention was the word "playmaker" which we are in short supply. And also definitely cheaper than that Who Says I Know What I Want.

    Any good?

Manchester United rival Chelsea for Porto midfielder Moutinho > Manchester United > Sport | Click Manchester

According to reports Manchester United are interested in FC Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho.

Diario de Noticias claims United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is eyeing the Portuguese playmaker.

It is understood that United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea are also interested in the midfielder.

It is believed that both clubs will turn to Moutinho should they miss out on Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric.

New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is close to Moutinho, having revived his flagging career at Porto.

And United manager Sir Alex Ferguson spoke regularly with former No 2 Carlos Queiroz about the midfielder when he was a star with Sporting Lisbon.

We were linked very heavily when he was at Sporting, he's a brilliant player, I'd love him here but I can definitely see him going to join AVB at Chelsea rather than come here.

Don't think its possible for him to come to us over Chelsea if he came to England.

He used to be an attacking midfielder/central midfielder, when he joined Porto Villas-Boas played him deeper and gave him a more defensive role and became better.

Chelsea would outbid us the second we put in an offer for him, not going to happen. I remember him from when he played for Sporting, was constantly linked with us but sort of stagnated, the move to Porto did him a world of good though.

Apparently Vilas Boas dropped him deeper, which rejuvenated him. He seemed to dissapear off the grid - I only knew he'd gone to Porto when I played PES 2011 and he was listed there.

Now Vilas Boas is at Chelsea - I think the cream of Porto's squad will follow, Falcao, Hulk and Moutinho.

Not sure why I hadn't thought of this prior to my current knee-jerk reaction to the Spain-Portugal game, but Moutinho would be a near perfect midfield signing for us.

Clever with the ball, moves well, great passing range; and not only hard-working but extremely disciplined defensively. Would be a great signing. You heard it here first!

Lots, Abramovich is in the crowd anyway, so expect him at Chelsea next season.
