He came on as a sub to make his debut in the last ten minutes of United's 1-0 Carling Cup win over Wolves on 23rd September, 2009. King is a very talented young striker who has also played games for our Academy and Reserve sides so far this season. Here's another thread about him: http://www.manutdtalk.com/forums/man-utd-chat/27233-unknown-norwegian-17-year-old-nani.html And info on the Official website: Joshua King - Manchester United Official Web Site What do you think of him? He's only 17, but can he make it at United? :first:
Thought I'd get this thread going... 2 sweet goals tonight. Looks the real deal. Pace to burn as well as composure.
To make it here he's going to have to be something special, considering he has five strikers ahead of him in the pecking order, three of which are still young. Not to mention Diouf when he gets here in January, who is 21, so presumably Fergie intends to use him in the first team almost immediately.
Diouf has been playing on the wing for Molde the last few games and not impressing by all accounts. Your first point is valid though. He would want to be seriously special to make it.
Fair point but why aren't they playing him as one? Is it cos the other 2 lads are better up top? I don't know the answers but I wouldn't be expecting too much from the lad. he could be another Dong or Manucho.
Watching King last night, obviously he was only up against Sunderland's reserves, but he's got pace, phenomenal dribbling skill, and he's got an eye for goal. I said it during the match, and thinking about it today, his style reminds me of Rooney. With Michael Owen out for a couple of weeks, I can see SAF sticking King on the First team bench ahead of Welbeck and Macheda, so we might be getting a good look at him with some match-winning goals to follow!
there is no way King will get on the bench over Wellbeck or Macheda, and to be honest i would hope not. If the other 2 are not getting reserve games then they need minutes in the first team.
This kid seems pretty special from all the reports I've read. I'll certainly follow his progress with a close eye.
YouTube - Manchester United Reserves v Sunderland Stunning from both Eikrem and King in the sunderland game.
A nice clip I've just found on YouTube showing King's substitute debut in the Carling Cup match against Wolves:
There has been lots of recent discussion around the future of our strikers. Obviously Rooney is a cert to be in the first team for as long as we can hold off Real Madrid. The weight of fan love seems to be turning against Berbatov, we don't know how often we'll see Owen fit, and then the Macheda, Welbeck, Diouf, and now Hernandez debate will heat up. But the forgotten man, I would argue, is the pacy and explosive Josh King. He's had a few injuries this year, but from what I've seen of him, could develop to a point where he leapfrogs the others in the next couple of seasons. Who else likes what they see? We're very lucky to have a rich line of strikers coming through. One of them is bound to make it at united. But i think it's fair to say that even if they don't they should make united alot alot money!! If Campbell goes for 5m then think of how much the likes of Macheda, Welbeck, and King would go for. United are making alot of money on their youth products.
I think Welbeck might be changed full-time to a winger though, possibly the same with King Keane and Macheda are out and out strikers though
Welbeck definately has Henry characterists. I perhaps wouldn't play him as a full time winger, maybe a more left sided forward in 433. King looks amazing in moons short clip above ^^^ P.s Nox how are people supose to concentrate when you have that profile picture? haha. love it
