Go on and support City then, the last time we've bought a high profile player was Veron, and looking at how that went I don't see us buying established world stars as long as Sir Alex is at the helm

    Nachito Coronel is spot on.

We aleays fare better when developing talemt. Thats what UTD have always been about - developing their taelnet and occasionally reinforcing with a required purchase.

As for Veron - we used him incorrectly. I know he cost a lot, but we should have only used him in the ECL. I remember that game against Juve when he really did control the whole game-awesome!

theres no danger that will happen with Strootman, don´t think they´ll buy dutch again in the next years. They had Sneijder/van der Vaart and Robben at the same time - and they didnt know what to do with them all. Plus Huntelaar and Drenthe. So we can make him big and have him for years.

The point I was making is we are no longer seen to be a "destination" club, compared to Real or Barca. A lot of players (Ronaldo included) see us as a stepping stone to those clubs. If Real or Barca come calling at the moment, very few players (ours included) would not think seriously about it. We are also not attractive in terms of the money now either.

So true. At the moment we are lucky they do not want / not need one of our players. But in the future I can see this happening again: we buy someone with great talent cause Barca / Real does not call him at the moment.....and when that player is a star for us they go for him and in the end they get him. Also because our financial situation is that we also (have to) sell players. Their interest for Hernandez have cooled, Rooney they do not need. Otherwise these two could be potential targets for the Spaniards.

So I would not buy players that name Real or Barca as their dream clubs.....

I think that Barca and Real as clubs are not be sole reason they're thewetdream for young players. I think the Spanish league as such attracts players for various reasons. Everything from weather to style of play has to be taken into account. As Barca and Real are the biggest clubs around they're the obvious dream clubs for youngsters. There's not much to do about it, other than what we seem to be doing now, tracking down talented players that are either english or very loyal.

they see Spain NT dominating on youth level, that might also play a role. At the moment its clearly that Spain has the best league, the talented players and the best foreigners.

It's a combination of all those reasons, climate, lifestyle and the aura of Barca and Real.

Its very rare that Madrid give chances to young players, and Barca have an army of young players coming through, so Neymar aside, i can't see them buying many youngsters, they'll get a LB and maybe another striker this year...

the question is not about whom Barca or Madrid want to buy ... it is about what would be the preference of a player if we as well as Barca or RM want to sign and what could be the most influencing factor ....that where I mentioned Fergie

Unfortunately a bigger motivation for young players seems to be location and re-numeration.

Chelsea and City, and Spurs have to solve their managerial problems, and start dominating in europe again, 3 english Cl winners out of 4 would start breaking that cycle of Spanish domination. Of course it could start with them failing on international level...

You are stupid if you think we will create another Christiano Ronaldo.....We need an established player...all our current midfielders doesn't have the potential to be world class, they're good no doubt, but world class...let's be realistic...and don't even try to be a biased prick....

have to completely agree with that ... we would have been a completely different team with a London background....
