"Liverpool have sacked Director of Football Damien Comolli after the club's owners, Fenway Sports Group, reviewed the club's failure in the transfer market that saw high-profile and expensive acquisitions such as Andy Carroll contribute to a chastening season in the Premier League."

Well, I guess they wanted to get rid of somebody and it wasn't going to be Kenny Dalglish.
    Thoughts?

I agree, preventing the inevitable KKK sacking. The bad thing now is, they might actually make some decent transfers.

Theres no way those transfers were not sanctioned by Rab C Racist, he has to much influence in Klanfield. And theres no way he had no input on the size of the bids...like i said someone had to pay with their job for a dire league campaign so it had to be him

Wouldn't be surprised to see the fat, Spanish waiter back at the end of the season. Can't see KD lasting any longer than this season.

Interestingly enough, FSG sacked him after they had a conversation with Dogleash. Could be a case of "it wasn't my fault, it was his"

In all fairness, both him and Kenny should have got the sack.

The scouting, selection of transfer targets and negotiating between them has been some of the worst in the history of the game.

Kenny has admitted that he selected the players to try sign, not Comolli - so how has he not got the bullet?? Oh yeah it's King Kenny?!?! The longer he stays in charge the better! I really hope Everton stuff them at the weekend.

This, let's not act as if Comolli didn't have any hand in the signings. Both of them deserve the sack, and I'm sad to see Comolli leave, the summer is much worse already.

Didn't you know Comolli is a die hard United fan who was sent in by Fergie to try and dilute the great Liverpool squad with average players like Carroll and Henderson....King Kenny was just too much of a gent, to say nio to him when he put forward these transfer targets the amazingly humble and nice guy that he is.

At least Kenny got them an amazing shirt sponsorship deal for next season which is just as every bit as important as where you finish in the league

It made perfect sense to sack Comolli for plenty of reason. It's a shrewd political move from FSG.

    • The signings have been awful but Dalglish saying they were his is indicative of trying to keep some faith in his players and man-management - otherwise they'd be admitting they bought total shite; ironically of course, because they did.
    • It galvanizes the organization before the FA-semi and sends a message: FSG will not tolerate failure (lol...)
    • Warning to kenny that he's next on the chop block - either turn it around or 2 options ---> resign or get sacked.
    • The fans won't turn on the owners because they haven't sacked Kenny [yet] but are imposing themselves slowly.
    • FSG are going to get a report from kenny which explains the poor performances and if things don't pick up they can sack him and the fans won't go mental because by then he'll have proven he's inept or have relegated them.
    • Comolli was the architect in the deal which is paying over 50% of Joe Cole's salary at Lille. Brilliant negotiating skills.
    • The next director won't be swayed as much by Dalglish's influence in the transfer market - by the admission they were his signings, Dalglish relinquishes a lot competence (or what little he has) in that area. The new director won't succumb to Dalglish's soft-power as a Legend for their club and will be able [in theory, as it is Liverpool after-all] to make more astute signings.

Perhaps i'm giving them too much credit though.
