I have read many threads on here and they appear too serious. I just thought we should try something a little light. This is considering United being ranked as the team that rarely waste chances earlier this season; it will be nice to know and credit players who are responsible. Who do you think is the most clinical United player of the current squad in front of Goal? What criteria inform your choice? Here are some criteria I think should be considered (Feel free to add more):

    1. 1-on-1 with Goalie
    2. Short range accurate and placement in the box/goal mouth
    3. Long range shooting ability and accuracy/placement
    4. Ability to beat his man
    5. Ability to latch unto through ball/pass
    6. Ability to thread a shot through crowded box
    7. ....

Most people are likely to gravitate towards the strikers but a striker could be poor because of needing several chances before putting 1 away. Besides, statistics don't always tell the whole story.

ridiculous question. A certain player has outscored our other players by so much that not voting for his is almost criminal.

My personal pick will be Nani. Schole is the Ying-Yang master but we are not talking about passing. I know he's also good long range and in the box. However, if United will get a single chance only inside 90 minutes, I want

    1. Nani
    2. Giggs
    3. Scholes

Taking the shot in that preferential order (sorry Rooney fans). Yes Giggs got a hot leftie and Scholes' got a rightie. I want Nani taking that shot if he could be hassled...

Hernandez of last season is a good shout but not this season's. I know Rooney can curl and take a mean free Kick and shots but he rarely goes past 50-50. I don't like that our star player used to get frustrated quickly, although he's outgrowing that slowly... Berbatov is a good call if he'll remember to gas his engine enough to latch on to a running pass

Hernandez is by far the best poacher in the team. He doesn't take a lot of shots during a game, but when he does they normally go in or force a save. Rooney on the other hand takes shots like they're going out of fashion; some good, some not so good. Still, give Rooney a good chance in and around the box and chances are it'll be a goal. He doesn't waste many good chances. Berbatov is super clinical when he's in the mood, the only problem is that he's prone to the odd howler.

Clam, it's all about personal point of view. Some will rely on stats, others on non-stats and the rest on some combination of both. For instance, the poster before have not considered "being disabled on the other foot' but for me this is a biggie! What if the shot/pass didn't fall nicely on the stronger foot? Then we lose the chance...

If we are drawing or losing by 1 goal at the death and "A Player" gets played through for that 1 final chance at goal 1 v 1 with the keeper i dont want ANYBODY else on it apart from Michael Owen IMO still the greatest 1 v 1 finisher at the club n possibly the league..(after him id take Hernandez then any from Rooney, Giggs, Scholes or Valencia)

I think in one-on-ones, not many footballers in England would come close to Michael Owen. Berbatov isn't too bad either, but Hernández would probably trump him. Distance shooting is certainly Rooney's realm.

We rarely see Hernandez in a one on one situation due to the way he plays in our system. I'm not sure if he has the finesse of an Owen or a Berba in that particular instance.

On the occasions that I have seen him in such situations, he's done fairly well (his goals last season against Wigan and Chelsea spring to mind, as well as his goal for Mexico against Spain). But you might be right; Berbatov does strike me as someone who won't too many chances like that - although I reckon Hernández's pace might mean that he finds himself with such a chance more often.
