It wasn't long ago when we were in the top 3 clubs that players wanted to join, but players don't seem to have that desire to join us like they once did.

Taking into consideration money, prestige, trophies, attractive football, etc........Who are the most desirable clubs to play for?

Its odd how Dortmund have won the last two titles, whooped Bayern in the cup final recently and play great football but nobody finds them a desirable club to play for.

What about Liverpool? Players always are dying to play for Pool!! Always say they've been life-long fans when they join too.

If you think that United is strapped financially, then it is nothing compared to Dortmund. Football wise they are a desirable club to play for, but money wise they are far far behind.

Taking everything into consideration then my top 5 would be something like this

    1. Barcelona, good money and the gimmick of playing for the perceived best club in the world
    2. Real Madrid, good money and the most winning club in Europe
    3. Manchester City, absurd money and a chance to play with some of the best players in the world
    4. Chelsea, very good money and great location to live (it does matter to some players)
    5. AC Milan, good money and there is still something magic about that red and black shirt

Just outside the top 5 is Inter, Juventus, Manchester United, Paris SG and Bayern Munich.

If you are a young player looking to develop, then the most desirable clubs would look a little different.

    1. Dortmund, have to rely on younger players and have one the best coaches in the world at getting the max for young player in Klopp
    2. Ajax, explanation should not be nessary
    3. Manchester United, Ferguson has never been afraid to let the young players get their chance and have a good track record for developing world class talent
    4. Juventus, like Dortmund they have to rely more on younger players and have a coach that is not afraid to give them a chance
    5. Lille, always producing good results with young players and have a few veterans around to guide them

    In no particular order...

    1. Barca- The chance to play with the best team in current modern footballing history, along with the honor to play alongside Messi.

Real- Good money, great football and of course, the chance to pull on that legendary white shirt and step out onto the Bernabeu.

Milan or Inter- Both clubs' luster has lost a bit of its sheen in the past few years, but nevertheless, they still both retain their status amongst the elite of world football. Anyone would kill to play for either of these two.

Manchester United- You don't need a reason to play for United. Our name speaks for itself.

Juventus- In the last few years, players would love to go to Juve, but nowhere as much as this year when it looks like they have got their swagger back. Very strong core of players with great spirit and capable of dominating Italian football.

So you think we have more pulling power than City? I hope Hazard knows that ha ha.

Also, we don't attract stars. We make them... (then sell them on for a profit).

Actually, I do think we have more pulling power than they do. Only thing they have over us is money. Take that away and they have nothing....nothing at all whereas United has the foundation and the soul of a dynasty. Only reason why we aren't pulling the talent we should be is because...

1.Fergie believes we have all the players we need and isn't as aggressive in the transfer market as the other top clubs
    2. We aren't making attractive enough offers to players who could massively improve us......i.e lack of funding power.
    3. The past few seasons have been very average and give players a poor representation of our image as opposed to the permanent philosophy of general attractive attacking play..

Very few kids outside of Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia and Asia dream of wearing the red of Manchester and Liverpool when they grow up. Maybe Africa as well.

Yeah, I think the original question is very tough to answer because it depends on the person and where they're from. That's probably why everybody is coming up with quite a different list.

Personally, if I was a player I would walk over hot coals from ANY club: Real, Barca, Milan if I heard that United were interested in me. I know David Beckham for one reveres United more than any club and he's somebody who went and played for Madrid under massive fanfare. There are many others. It all depends who you ask. Prestige is of course a major factor in motivating players to sign for the likes of Madrid, Barca, United, Milan and Juve. But the money of a club like City can go a long way, not much prestige, Mario Balotelli has admitted that he wasn't aware of City even existing before they came in to sign him. But did it matter? No. Money most definitely talks.

I also think perhaps the individual is taken into account as well. If a player has had lifelong dreams of playing for his dream club and they come calling for him, he'll drop everything and rush to them in a heartbeat, REGARDLESS of other clubs that also make offers for him.

its the name though isnt it...BAYERN MUNICH. When you think of german football that club and its past legends just spring to mind. Same with Barca and Real. Malaga may have the money but they will never have the name or history...Citeh will find this in a few years time.

for me the most desirable clubs are The Milans, Real, Barca, United, Bayern
