Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho plans to return to Premier League - ESPN Soccernet

Jose Mourinho is apparently eager to secure a move to the Premier League with Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea.

Mourinho left Inter last season after suffering a difficult relationship with the media and his rival coaches' in Italy, and since arriving at Real Madrid he has spoken on a number of occasions of his love for the English game.

Reports of unrest at Madrid have surfaced of late, fuelled by sporting director Jorge Valdano's criticism of Mourinho's decision to bench Karim Benzema, and it appears the coach is not planning to remain at the Bernabeu long-term.

"I've decided to return to England," he was quoted as saying in The Sun. "I have nothing prepared about my future - I just want to be happy in my work.

"I have no preferences about Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea. I just want to rediscover the joy. I'm not saying the Premier League is the most spectacular in the world but it is the best organised... the fair play and the enormous respect for your opponent."

Mourinho, who led Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2005 and 2006, has repeatedly been touted as a successor to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

When Fergie retires, hopefully he'll come to join us, and bring Cris with him

I doubt Abramovich would have him back at Chelsea.

I really, really hope he doesn't go to City. They WILL win trophies with Mourinho in charge.

City will offer him silly money - the only way he'll come to OT is if he likes us and/or his ego makes him want to succeed SAF...

He has been at the greatest European clubs at such a young age and the only place he will go is United, City interfere to much at boardroom level and Chelski wont swallow their pride and welcome him back. Plus lets face it, Real Madrid, Internationale, and Manchester United, the CV wont read the same if it says City, it will be like a dirty mark he cant quite wipe off! I hope if he does come though it isnt a case of winning everything to feed his ego then bogging off after 3 years, its needs to be more long term (if thats exists anymore, i might be living a pipedream if i believe we will get another long term manager again).

I don't know, would Jose choose money over prestige? He's been careful picking his clubs in the past and Utd would look far more impressive on his CV than City.

If I was him, regardless of who I support I wouldn't go from Inter and Real to City. From two of the biggest, most elite clubs in the world to City!?!? They may be rich now but are ultimately one rich Arab away from the championship and bankruptcy.

He went to Chelsea, where's the prestige in that? Mourinho will have unlimited amount of cash to spend in City, and we all know how Mourinho loves to spend the money.

He's coming here once Fergie decides to call it a day. Does no-one watch Special1TV?

tbf, it's been quite funny this season, not as good as it was at the start but definitely funnier than it has been in the past year or so. Watch a few more episodes from this season.

All true but Chelski had already won a couple of trophies leading up to his arrival under Viali etc, they were then on their way up, unlike the city scenario of trying going from 0-100 mph in i matter of days. Plus Mourinho joined a new revolution of ownership with unlimited funds, but realised the issues of backroom interference due to the importance of their 'investment'. I dont think he would go for this again. And anyway, why are we kiding ourselves with the will he wont he debate. When Fergie does go everybody would love his passion and controversy at the club. I dont think Fergie would hang around either at an ambassidor level, he is either all in or out, making it easier for Mourinho to have his influence on things.

Hasn't Mourinho already said they he would love to join United one day? I hope he does take over and become our next when Fergie calls it a day. As people have said though, I want him to stay long term and not feck off after a few years when he has won a few trophies with us. Because that is what he has been doing at every club he has managed. I doubt he would join City tbh. They do have the spending money which will suit his needs, but Im sure he would want to join a big club and not a small club with alot of money.

Watched few episodes from this season, decent, but they're crap compared to the Setanta Sports days.

By the time Mourinho will leave Madrid, City will be already an established big 4 club and they would have few trophies too. City are already bigger than Chelsea before Mou.
Mourinho also joined Inter, who have an owner who interferes in the signings and now he's at a club where the owner is making the signings and hes just a coach. In-fact City would be a much better place than Real, Chelsea and Inter, I can't recall City owners interfering in any of the signings and they've given their managers great freedom. Both Moratti and Abramovich interefere in the transfers and sign the players they like and we all know that Perez and board do the transfers they like @ Real.

No surprise at all if the quotes were indeed true. I don't think we have ever heard him talking about being happy at Madrid or praising Spanish football (above others) but he has, every now and then, reminisced about his time in England and praising English football (above others).

For the Mourinho United fans here, however, his apparent eagerness to return to England may just come a bit too soon, what with Fergie's end of a glorious reign nowhere in sight. Trouble then is that once he does take up a job in one of the other bigger clubs before Fergie finally calls it a day, it is more unlikely he will/can jump ship so immediately in the same league to join us.

This is very true, I really want José as our next manager and I do think he'll stay at Real another season or two, but will Fergie be still around by then? If he is then José will go to City in all likelihood, I just sincerely hope not.

True, he always says he loves the Premier League, and reminisces about how much he enjoyed it, but when he was here, he bitched non stop about everything as I recall. He's mellowed a bit since I suppose.

I can't see any of the clubs that are mentioned going for him at this moment. In fact I don't think Chelsea will ever approach him, not while Roman is there at least. In any case, I'm not sure those quotes are even legit, since he has been misquoted in The Sun before (re: Capello).

if mourinho quit real, then city would sack mancini in a heartbeat... but would jose go knowing that it would end his ambition of replacing saf?
