Manchester United are considering a £10million bid for Fulham's attacking midfielder Mousa Dembele with Paul Scholes still to make a decision over whether he will play on next season.
United are expected to start rebuilding in the likely event of losing their Premier League title to Manchester City and Dembele is in line to be the first of a number of signings.
The 24-year-old Belgium midfielder has made a huge impression since his £5m move from AZ Alkmaar in 2010 and he has been a revelation following Fulham manager Martin Jol's decision to drop him back into a deeper central-midfield role in the 2-1 win over Stoke in February.
He has only scored twice this season but has been instrumental in Fulham's rise to ninth and is seen as a ready-made replacement for Scholes, 37.

With Lille's attacking midfielder Eden Hazard - who has just been voted player of the year in the French League - likely to join City, Ferguson must find cover for Darren Fletcher, who has a long-term illness, and Tom Cleverley, who has been prone to injury problems throughout the current campaign.
The United boss is known to covet Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa and flew to Germany on Saturday to watch the Japanese international, who scored the opening goal in their 5-2 win over Bayern Munich in the German Cup Final.

Ferguson, also interested in Kagawa's team-mate Mario Goetze, will have talks with Scholes in an attempt to persuade him to extend his comeback for another season and has been full of praise for the way the veteran slotted into the side after reversing his decision to retire after five months on the coaching staff.
'I will speak to Paul,' said Ferguson. 'Obviously he made a tremendous contribution when he came back. But it was his decision to return and I will respect whatever he wants to do.
'I haven't discussed it with him yet, to be honest. I think I made that mistake last season, talking to him before the season had finished. 'It is better getting the season over and having a break and I may not speak to him before he has been away on holiday.'

Is he Man United quality? No doubt he's a quality player but I can't see him ever being Manchester United worthy.

if there's any chance of a deal with dortmund, i'd give them £30-£40m for both goetze and kagawa. players who know each others game slotting into the area where we need 2 quality players.

not sure if bayern played their first team in the german cup final, but if they did and these 2 managed to overcome schweinstiger, kroos etc, and they've helped dortmod win their league, they must have something about them.

if the £5m for kagawa that had been bandies around is realistic, i can t see why we couldnt swoop for both these within a £40m combined bid

He's quality. He'd get our team right now, and if we brought in more players, would make a great squad player.

Exactly, people saying "not united quality", that shit doesn't apply anymore, the whole league is full of players good enough for this United squad...

There's no point buying players that won't get us closer to Barcelona and Real Madrid. So say tactical geniuses orko and TheManc.

Very good player. He needs to score more goals though.

If we got Dembele, Goetze, and Kagawa in this transfer window i'll wet myself.

I've posted alot about us signing Dembele. I honestly think he'll be a legend here if we do. He's a sensational midfielder, just what we need.

Do you think he could play in central midfield, or just in the hole? We need a player who can play right in the middle.

He can't play deep. He plays best just off the striker with a license to to roam. He can do a job out wide as well.

Dembele prefers assists to goals, Sigur prefers goals to assists...

I thought you said you preferrred assists?

Yes, I prefer assists, and attacking midfielders who are more about passing than scoring. But what does this have to do with Dembele? I rate Sigur higher, and I'd take him over Dembele because I believe that Sigur has more potential and can be a better player regardless of his style.

Gourcuff is more about passing than Nasri, but I'd still take Nasri over him, because Nasri is better.

But what use is buying Sigurdsson if we also get Kagawa, no way can they both play

Right in the middle, when he's in the whole he isn't effective at all due to his lack of end product. Since the turn of the year he's played in a 2 man midfield and he's come on leaps and bounds. He has this ability to waltz through an opposition midfield as if it's not there. Plus he's also quite a big lad, and with his ability on the ball it allows him to never lose the ball. That's something we could use in our team at the moment IMO.

Sigur can be moulded into an attacking central midfielder role. The guy is big enough and works hard, we can play him in such a formation:

    ----------Carrick
    -------------------Sigur
    ------------Kagawa
    Valencia----Rooney-----Nani

Sigur playing in the role Gibson played against Bayern, and Kagawa behind the front 3.
Let's not forget that Kagawa is a hard worker too, and from the little I've seen of him, he puts his shift and helps the midfield to retain the ball.

I'm just comparing styles mate. In the Kagawa thread I said I like attacking midfielders who assist more than score (unlike Kagawa) Gourcuff is more about creating and Nasri is more about scoring, but even tho I prefer Gourcuff's style I'd take Nasri over him.

Well in that case I'm sold. Wasn't sure as haven't watched many full Fulham games since the turn of the year, so from highlights it was difficult to tell out who out of him and Dempsey was playing further forward.

Kagawa, Dembele and Tiote please Fergie :)
