The Danish media has been sending Michael Laudrup to Swansea for over a week now. Personally I never did believe that he would go there, but now BBC is also out with the story. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18325287 BBC usually only prints stories when they are confirmed or 95% sure, so now I really think he might go to Swansea. Laudrup's footballing philosofy fits Swansea's for sure, but Laudrup himself has no experience with English football at all. He has spend his entire career in Italy and Spain (with a short stop in Russia as manager and Holland as player). Do you think he will be successful in Swansea or is this doomed to go bad?
Difficult to say really. You couldn't rule out the possibility of him being a success. But it's tough to come to a foreign league, especially one as competitive as the PL and take it in your stride without problems. It definitely helps to have good knowledge of the teams and players in the league. I don't know how up on things he is. But Laudrup would still need a good amount of support in that sense in terms of adjusting to the new environment. The rest would depend on the same factors that make any manager succeed or fail in a job. It would definitely be a strange appointment for both parties but if both are willing to take that chance then best of luck to them.
Desailly has been approached for the Swansea job. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11731/7807630/Desailly-reveals-Swansea-offer
they would be crazy to appoint him - doesn't even have any experience, best going for an experienced manager to keep them in the league.
Yeah I agree, and I think the Swansea job would be a difficult place for him to begin his managerial career.
Michael Laudrup has a good name in southern Europe where he was able to attract players to Getafe and Mallorca on his name alone. Don't know if that will be the case in Swansea. Now the news is that Laudrup will be revealed as the manager of Swansea by the end of this week. If I am not mistaken he will be the first Danish manager ever in top flight football in England, if appointed at Swansea.
Sky Sports are reporting Michael Laudrup is set to be announced as the new Swansea manager... http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11731/7809628/Laudrup-set-for-Swans-job
One of my favourite players of all time, I can't wait to see how he manages this project, I think it's a creative appointment. PL will be high quality next season, good footballing sides coming up, poor sides went down. AVB (if hired at Spurs), Laudrup, Rodgers all in the PL while managers like Kean and Daglish are gone. Exciting times.
very good appointment, he did a fantastic job with Getafe a couple of years ago and managed to keep a dire Mallorca side up a couple of years later, plus the fact that Swansea are a very sound technical side will only make his transition far smoother than if they would have signed some shit English manager instead. Swanseas' style of play is continental, so somebody like Laudrup only makes sense.
You really think that is true and not just writers making the connection because they are both from Denmark. Supposedly Swansea has given Laudrup GBP 15M to buy new players for, so there will be some players brought in. Interesting to see what he goes for.
