Mancini said the difference was we played for a draw whilst they played to win and it's hard to disagree.

Yeah, he's right. I can't help but feel that we should have went out to impose our game on them rather than almost determining our selection entirely on neutralising their threat. We were a little bit too cautious if anything. City are a good side. But they aren't Barca and we set-up as if they were. Going with just Rooney up-front was the right move as we've done that in dozens away games against strong sides both in the PL and in Europe and although Rooney himself sometimes lacks in terms of goal-threat when played up on his own, it has worked more often than not in terms of end result.

Some of the other selections were curious: Giggs hasn't had a lot of football over the past few months and when he has played has either looked like he's finally hit the wall and is officially past it or if your being more generous - in poor form. Then you've got Park who has played less football than even Berbatov in recent months (ie. none). Along with Jones and Smalling who haven't featured of late. Putting in so many players who haven't been featuring in the first team, some of the who haven't featured for very good reason was always going to be a gamble. I'm not going to criticise Fergie too much because he's gotten it right with unusual team selections in the past and if it had worked he'd be getting hailed as a genius today. But there was just too much caution and not enough fully fit, in-form players (not to mention enough energy in midfield to combat the likes of Toure and Silva) that when I heard the starting line-up and compared it to City's attack-minded selection I genuinely expected the worst. See, I really hate that: expecting the worst and then the worst actually happening.

Just cant believe Park was started, physically he looked awful, his body just isn't up to it anymore, he is really ageing fast now and looked like a cripple out there or bambi falling all over the place.

Dont think you can compare Giggs to Park at all, i dont think Giggs did too bad at all, he looked one of our liveliest players at times, did some good passing in the build up, had good movement and lasted the whole game and looked very fit unlike Mr Ji Sung :)

Exactly this, it was far too negative; to me it made no sense dropping Valencia and Rafael (was he injured?) What that game really needed was a fully fit Fletcher. :(

Ohhh come on what were you watching . Giggs tackling was terrible his passing was worse and he gave Evra no protection at all Nasri had a ball getting in behind them both all night , to play Giggs in the first place was a bad move to play him in front of Evra was even worse .

The decision to start Park was terrible, the decision to start Park, Giggs and Scholes (combined age of 106 years, btw) was plain stupid.

On their performances I think Scholes did better than most tbf and Giggs was better than Park but that wasn't difficult.

In retrospect I think we should of went -

    De Gea
    Jones Smalling Rio Evra
    Carrick Scholes
    Valencia Rooney Young
    Welbeck

Pretty much what I said before kickoff, except Jones for Rafa and Smalling for Evans because of his injury.

I wouldnt of started Giggs or Park but Giggs as some other people on other forums have said wasnt that bad not saying great but the hate for Giggs is way over the top, against the best midfield in the world,(yes currently better than Barcelona's) he didn't do too badly.

Yes very foolish, Just imagine if Neville and VDS didnt retire and fergie played them all, wouldnt of put it past him to be honest

Not suprised about the Rooney one. Tactics were shocking.
Cleverley one I don't really see. He's not the type to cause trouble.

I'd love to know what they say about Hazard on their twitter but I'm not a member on RI...

I'd be disappointed if there wasn't. Shows the loss hurts and that they at least know they didn't do themselves justice.

I wouldn't say anyone hates Giggs he is a legend after all, but age is catching up with him and he can't pass nor can he tackle , it was strange that SAF played him out wide if you don't have the legs to run their full back and you can't pass in link up play what it the point of playing him ? .

Anyone else thinking we should kill this thread?

We all know we played the worse possible team and tactics, lets move on.
