I'm surprised that Sir Alex hasn't offered to take a United team up there for a friendly to raise funds. Mind you despite being a lifelong Rangers fan, he was treated pretty shockingly by them as a player. And I suppose there's the very real possibility that Rangers might fold before the summer. Noises about a possible buyout are beginning to do the rounds though.
Yeah, potential new owners are said to be in discussions atm. According to reports though, they could be in a worst position than thought and they may need an injection of cash very soon to even finish the season - never mind aiming for next season. The administrators have already said Europe is out of the question next season, so that opens things up for everyone else. If that does indeed happen, it'll be Motherwell in the CL I would think.
Do Scotland get 2 UCL teams then? I thought only the Champions qualified and the runners up went into the Europa. Either way, great for Motherwell.
Most years we've had 2 places, but last season we only got one. We're back to 2 now though, despite our teams not performing any better so I don't really know why that is actually. IIRC, the Champions will qualify to the groups and 2nd will go into probably the 2nd qualifying round. Motherwell will be unseeded I'd imagine, so will get a very hard tie and probably end up out. But then they'll probably drop into a qualifying stage of the Europa, because I'm sure it's now the 2nd qualifying round that teams start to drop down? Of course, that also opens up a place for other teams for the Europa as we get 2 of those as well. It might be 3 actually, for the Cup winners (or runners-up, or another league place depending on who wins the Cup).
I hope they die, I truly do. The greatest thing that could happen to the Scottish game is the huns and their unwashed brothers ceasing to exist. The celebrations in Scotland if the 2 of them left this league would be earth shattering. How ******* sad it is that they have evaded tax and spent money they don't have. I bet not one person associated with the club gave a **** while they were getting away with it. What goes around comes around. Like I've said the word is used widescale across Scotland in a totally non religious context so I really couldn't care less how catholics use the word.
The way i use the word doesn't mean the same thing as when other people use it. Where have i heard that before
I live in Glasgow . About 25 years ago BOTH sets of supporters used the term to describe the others in a derogatory fashion .Over time (don't ask me how.)it became a term purely for Rangers and their followers and used by all non-Rangers supporters. In recent years there has been unofficial campaigns to have the term deemed sectarian.
CVA has been rejected by HMRC. They have said it's in "the best interests of creditors" if Rangers PLC is liquidated. UEFA are expected to impose sanctions and the SPL clubs are voting on whether or not to allow Rangers to play in next seasons' SPL. This is about as dark as it gets.
Indeed, Charles Green is expected to look to buy Rangers' assets and start them up as a newco (AFC Rangers of Glasgow, for example). However, there's is absolutely no doubt that they should be starting from Division 3. The arguments about "how important they are to the League" etc will be made. But the fact is, the way they've behaved has been disgraceful to say the least and they've shown no respect whatsoever to the any of the other clubs or the authorities. Not only that, but no other Scottish club or the national team should have to suffer (as Fifa/Uefa have threatened) due to their behaviour. Enough is enough. Scottish football is in a bad enough position as it is. If we let them away with this, we'll be even more of a laughing stock than we are already. We can't let them walk all over everybody.
you look at Portsmouth FC and then you see Rangers FC. How things can change for the worse when you least expect it.
I have no sympathy for the club in all honesty just the fans. Must be a horrible feeling for them right at this moment. Also god knows what it will do to the coffers of the other clubs...surely it means the TV companies who have the rights now will be allowed to renegotiate their deals?
I have this fear as well, and I think there would be huge anger about it happening. Most fans are fed up with it as it is without this potentially happening. Some of the clubs (like Hibs, Dundee Utd, St Mirren, Inverness) have spoken out against the way they've behaved. Hibs in particular have been vocal, so hopefully they (and the other clubs) actually show some backbone this time and stick to their guns. I'm not 100% sure how the voting will work, usually regarding SPL matters you need 11 votes in favour for something to happen but obviously that's out of the window. Whatever happens, it'll be interesting to see which way each club goes - that'll tell you a lot. I would imagine the TV rights may have to be renegotiated if they're out. One of the terms of the deal IIRC is for 4 Old Firm games, which obviously wouldn't happen. As for the club going into administration etc, one thing that's important to mention is a lot of people only think about the millionaire footballers and how they don't feel sorry for them. That's true to an extent, but people tend to forget about the "little people" - anybody from the receptionists, sales assistants, tea ladies, young academy players etc etc who will be out of a job and/or having their dreams shattered.
TV Rights and money is the single reason why I don't see the clubs voting to throw Rangers out. The Old Firm games are basically the SPL's unique selling point.
The newco will be called "The Rangers FC". Imaginative http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11788/7812988/Newco-will-be-The-Rangers-FC-
