Magnus Eikrem (sometimes known as Magnus Wolff Eikrem) is the main creative midfield threat for United's Reserves. He recently appeared on the First team bench when we beat Wolves at home in the Carling Cup, and although he didn't get on the pitch, he is now the proud owner of United's number 42 shirt.

Here are some other links about Eikrem:

A superb performance for Eikrem against Sunderland Reserves this evening. He scored a beautiful curling free kick, followed by a masterful lob of the keeper from about 40 yards. He already has his First team shirt number ..... how long until we see him making his way with the big boys, and showing us he's the "new Paul Scholes"? :D

First goal was superb Magnus Eikrem direct free kick.

Second goal was an Eikrem assist with fellow Norwegian, Joshua King, running in to score.

The third goal was Eikrem's Beckham-esque long distance chip of the goalie.

King went on to get a fourth in the match too.

‘A Star In The Making’ – Manchester United’s Magnus Eikrem | Football FanCast

    ........................

A growth spurt and dedication in the gym has seen Eikrem this season develop the kind of stature that allows him to impose himself on games and has easily been Manchester United most impressive reserve player, grabbing a brace along with Josh King in a 4-0 win against Sunderland.

This performance lead to him being given a squad number for the season (42) as well as a place on the bench in United’s Carling Cup victory over Wolves.

Eikrem’s good form is not lost on Sir Alex Ferguson who reportedly gave Eikrem a new 4 year contract on £6000 a week contract in October, which for a reserve player is quite something.

Eikrem has great vision and passing which he puts to great effect in raking up assists as well as being a very intelligent player knowing when to hold on to the ball and when to release it but his best attribute is his lethal set pieces. Solskjaer remarked, “He practices them all the time, every single day in training sessions.”

His dedication to improving his delivery as well as shooting from dead ball situations is reminiscent of former United legend, David Beckham
and if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s words and Sir Alex Ferguson’s faith are to be believed who is to say he won’t reach the same heights?

It frustrates me when I see Neville on the bloody subs bench all the time when we have players like this in the reserves who can come on and have a go at making a name for themselves.

I did wonder whether Vidic had been showing him some moves in training or something.

Why hasn't Eikrem been given a chance in the first team? He looks a tidy player.

He looked a little out of his depth against Villa but I also think Evans was poor alongside him. He definitely has a keen eye for a pass though. I don't think he is near ready for first team action though.

Very disappointed that he didnt get nay game time. Was hoping to see how he does for the first team. Should have taken off Gibson at 60 min mark fot Eikrem.

It frustrates me even more when people think just because a young player looks good in the reserves that they are ready for the first team squad ahead of greats like Gary Neville, maybe in the CC which is a platform for young talent but if you think teenage reserve players should be put ahead of players like Neville on the bench in EPL and CL games then all i can say is what world do you live in, glad Fergie picks the team and not you, do you think he keeps Neville in the squad as a sympathy vote for him, of course not he still thinks he has plenty to offer.

Next you'll be frustrated over another promising reserve player not being put in the first team squad outside of the CC instead of Paul Scholes or Ryan Giggs.
