dear all. i've seen a thread which suggests we need a holding midfielder in case carick is injured. now i know carrick is not everyone's cup of tea, but i have a bit of faith in him. if we sign a top player to replace him, then fine, but i dont want us to sign a middle of the road player who could step in. i'd rather we use rio who reads the game well, can come forward, and can still be a good defender at set pieces. i accept it might be a bit late in his career to think about moving him, but i think he could do really well for us there - sat in front of vidic and smalling and allowing scholes, carrick, cleverley and possible even kagawa getting forward knwoing they have Rio behind him. it may take time for him to adjust, but would it be any longer than a new signing? slate me if you want, but i think we need to be realistic and if we get Kagawa, we will have improved and we know vidic, anderson, cleverley will be fit and like new signings. hence, glazers may close the purse
Lets play Hernandez as goalkeeper in the unlikely chance De Gea, Anders and Amos are all injured or shite too...
You have to be joking? Clearly the new Mr.Utility - Phil Jones will be played in goal. In Fergie we Trust..... sometimes.
No way. I hate these threads that revolve around the suggestion of using Ferdinand or Rooney or somebody else who's in our squad as an 'emergency midfielder', it's become a cliche now. Let it go. Rio is a defender and has played as a centre back for virtually his entire career, just because he played in central midfield for West Ham a bit when he was much younger and can move the ball on the deck better than most CB's doesn't mean that at 33 years of age and with fitness problems that it's time to shift his role to that of holding midfielder.
I think most people have already said what has to be said. Plus, he played there for us a few times and it didn't go too well.
he has technique and some knowledge but that isn enough see jones he became a disaster against powerful and some midterm teams. scholes is the man, but i suggest valencia is even better more stronger faster and knows better the position
Jones is the best bet for "emergency DM" Although in all fairness I think in an emergency we should give an opportunity to youngsters in that position - like Ryan Tunnicliffe. Rio played DM in his first season at West Ham. But he can't play there effectively now.
I think he could do a decent job as a holding mid if we're desperate, but I don't think we'll reach that situation.
We are Manchester United for f**k sake, we need to start acting like the club we are, come on using a defender as an emergency midfielder, we shouldn't even be talking about this shit. The owners need to stop being cunts and give us money to buy world class players.
Apparently he played there a few times he came here. His first game was good, the second was a disaster and we never played him there again.
