http://www.givemefootball.com/premier-league/psg-plot-5m-manchester-united-defender-bid Manchester United are set to be tempted by a £5million bid from Paris St-Germain for Patrice Evra in January, according to The Independent. The 31-year-old defender could see his £90,000-a-week salary increased by moving to Parc des Princes, with the Ligue 1 giants now funded by the Qatar Investment Authority. Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson would have to buy a straight replacement for the Frenchman, who still has two years to run on the Old Trafford contract he renewed in 2010, with neither Fabio Da Silva or Alexander Buttner looking capable of making the left-back spot their own. Evra - a PSG supporter - is understood to be keen on the idea of concluding his career at his hometown side, and could join Carlo Ancelotti in the French capital in the New Year. The France international currently has the prestige of the Manchester United captaincy, though that is only temporary, with Nemanja Vidic poised to make his return from injury. By selling to PSG, Ferguson could recoup virtually the entire outlay on the defender, who is no longer reaching the heights of previous seasons.
I'm not totally against the idea but I wouldn't rush into it without a replacement who is better than him.
get a new leftback but who??? is it possible to get Baines???? we've been trying to get him but still can't
We can't fault Evra though if he so wishes to return to his hometown plus as reported, a PSG fan. After all, I believe his best years are already behind him. But yeah, we will be in a fix if we let him go now. We should have given Fabio more game time in his proper left position when Evra went off the boil for such a long while instead of doing cameo on the right (?!) . Not much difference would have been felt surely and who knows he may have been at least more ready like his twin brother by now. Instead, we complicated matters by sending him out on loan just because he lacks games, ironically, and bringing in another rookie in the shape of Buttner (with all due respect).
I'd be tempted if PSG offered £5m in the summer but we shouldn't be selling any of our regular first-team players mid-season.
I still think Evra is good enough for us, but if he wants to go to PSG because that's his hometown club/ boyhood heroes - we should let him go. Better that than have him here and not have 100% committment. Now that Everton are blooding Oviedo into their first team, they may be open to a reasonable offer. I'd take the £5m from PSG and add another £10m and say to Everton take it or leave it. If they leave it, I guess we could be stuck.
Everton will never sell us Baines in January. Unless we offer a ridiculous money for him. Which we won't.
We've missed the boat on Baines, his start to the season will crack his value up even more. f**king scandalous that he's not a United player.
Baines would cost us a small fortune and at 27 (Isn't he?) I wouldn't favour the Idea unless we could get him for around the 8-10 million mark. Evra has been a loyal servant but as has been said his best days are behind him not...sadly Fabio should of had more pitch time by now so we would have had more confidence on whether or not he is a reliable replacement....and then we have Buttner.
With both UTD and PSG still in CL, this cannot or will not happen in Jan. I am ok to sell him in summer.
I don't like cup ties, it pointless and very restrictive. I know dickheads like City would just buy up all the players but there must be a better alternative.
Bollocks rumour, but no way would I accept £5M for him, especially when he's been playing well this season.
If it was next summer, I'd maybe consider it. It could work well for all parties in the summer. However, I wouldn't sell him in January. Trying to replace players, especially first-team players, in January difficult imo.
Not a chance we're gonna sell our best left back in January. Unless SAF has someone lined up that he thinks is better, that can hit the ground running in the Champions League.
We all accept that Evra hasn't been great for the past few years. We must also accept that given the fact that he's now in his thirties and the extended period that he has been below what used to be considered his 'best' that he's never going to be that player again. However, he's been a great servant for the club and has shown a lot of loyalty and love towards United, so if we could earn him a good final payday for the club that he grew up supporting then why not? But ONLY if we have a replacement lined up as I don't think that there's anybody currently on the books that has a chance of realistically becoming a solid first choice. Personally I don't think that there's anybody currently at the club that could be Criscito, Nagatomo and Baines (provided he didn't cost as much as has been touted) would be good options as replacements.
I wonder if he's toying with the idea of trying Rafael at LB. Apparently he's equally comfortable on that side.
