And yet, (and with the greatest respect to Neil Young) Springsteen and Dylan are both just. . . Better.
They're not better, they are just more popular and acceptable. Let's look at the basic skills: Guitar: It's an insult to put Neil's name along with Bob's and Bruce's, one is among Wes, Hendrix, Morello, Johnson, B.B, Page and May as one of the best guitarists in the history of the world. The other two are nobodies when it comes to guitar. Harmonica: The three of them are brilliant, I'd say Bob the best out of the three, but not by much. Writing: The trio of them are fantastic in this aspect, Like a Rolling Stone, Like a Hurricane and Nebraska, three examples of songs that features amazing lyrics. Composition: Once again Neil wins. Neil's song are far more complex and advanced than both of Bob and Bruce. His music is also more varied and evolving, Neil is an inspiration to multi-genres, whether you're a heavy metal fan or a soft rock fan, you appreciate Neil and count him as your God. Neil Young's music is out of this world compared to Bob and Bruce's simple music. Neil Young is not for everybody, and that's the main point about him. If you like music in it's purest form and appreciate the musical abilities and got the eye for the talent of other musicians, you'd naturally know that Neil Young is actually a much better musician and there's no debate here. I love all three of them, adore them and consider them as idols and have no bias on my opinion. My opinion is simply based on my musical knowledge which puts Neil ahead of them. Btw, if Bob was better than Neil Young, he wouldn't have to steal his songs. Or hide in the bushes of Neil's studio.
But there are people out there who are probably better than all three combined technically and have spent their lives as session musicians. That's the thing about music, it's not necessarily about technical ability. Neil Young isn't helped by his falsetto vocals, it's not a style that's as accessible as the vocals of Bruce and Bob. But I also believe that Dylan and Springsteen have both produced more iconic and a greater number of quality songs through the years. But that's a totally subjective issue.
Which is exactly my point. It's much easier to listen to Springsteen the first time than to listen to Young. Even tho Young is better musically. The three of them are iconic musicians and one of the most respected musicians in the modern history of music. Look at their interviews and they got nothing but respect towards each other. They also performed together at times.
Thats like saying the radiohead albums that had no hook chorus or much else were better than the bends Stuff and nonsense in my opinion or like saying a food is an acquired taste ----suffer eating it long enough that its a badge of honour to say u like it more like. Who gives a f**k? Just appreciate the greatness of all three of them. I know who they are because of my grandad. Three of his all time favourite artists. Particularly Neil Young.
I know. Abo is funny sometimes. He'll sit there and try to criticise two artists who he loves just to argue that one of them is better. . . I'm convinced that the guy argues with his own reflection when there's nobody else around.
Johhny Cash on his last two albums sounded terrible like a dying man ---which was what made the albums great ----sounds mad does it not.
