    Hi K.
You were definitely advertising him more than anyone else on this site, but anybody who watches MUTV will have known about Kiko before today's game.

    - I haven't celebrated like that since the CL final.
I had such a bad feeling going into this game and was hoping for a youngster like Welbeck to make a difference and when Mascheda scored I went through all the emotions. Amazing feelings...i wasn't in tears but close to it I think.

    - I would have loved to have been in the Stretford End. It must have been glorious. Simply glorious.

    - I thought it would be Welbeck before the game, but something during the game made me think Maschea, with his frame and his finishing could make a difference and I posted that I hoped Mascheda would score, even before he got substituted. And than it hapened and i went nuts.

    What a feeling....

    Yes, man!

It was a kiss for the whole of fooking Merseyside!

Genuinely surprised SAF took the gamble and threw him on, Fergie knows best and was proved correct again. I had seen bit's of him in the reserves and after his hat-trick last monday I reckon his confidence was sky high.

I think Kiko's goal will inject a new enthusiasm into the players, seeing this 17yr old make his debut in a crucial game and slot in and play with the big boys effortlessly and score a massive goal with a sublime finish. It was clear from the team's reaction after the goal what it meant to them.

    Damn straight RL(y)

Hopefully he keeps his head and continues his progression. He will be well looked after at United, one of the best clubs to develope young players:D

I remember him playing in The Milk Cup winning side last year and thinking 17, so maybe in 2010 he will be in the first team:rolleyes:

    From the sun :

    1. Born in Rome on August 22, 1991 — so has never seen Liverpool win the league.
    2. Began career with his local club Lazio in Italy.
    3. Joined United shortly after 16th birthday — and his whole family moved to England.
    4. United also signed his pal and highly-rated midfielder Davide Petrucci.
    5. His nickname among his United team-mates is ‘Kiko’.
    6. One of the things that excited him most after signing was that he could eat in the canteen with the first team.
    7. Scored on his youth team debut as he fired the only goal in a 1-0 win over Barnsley in September 2007.
    8. Made his debut for the reserves in February 2008 in a 2–0 away defeat to big rivals Liverpool.
    9. Signed his first professional contract with Manchester United on his 17th birthday.
    10. Was part of the United side that won the Manchester Senior Cup last year.
    11. Has spent most of this season playing as a lone striker in the reserves.
    12. Fired a hat-trick for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s second string in a 3-3 draw at Newcastle last week.
    13. Named in United’s Champions League squad after boss Alex Ferguson predicted he could make an impact at the end of this season.
    14. He is an Italy Under-18 international.
    15. On Friday his Facebook status read: MUFC v Aston Villa... watch it!

What did Fergie say before throwing him on? "Go! Play! Just do your thing!"

    Nice steal. :D

He was not overawed by the occasion, got himself involved straight in the thick of action, and showed a tremendous will to win with nice turns and touches. Not every teenage star could hold his nerves to score on debut, especially under such dire circumstance yesterday in extra time. The boy must be something really really special.

I would certainly advocate keeping him on our bench as a secret weapon. You know what I mean, restraining an eager 17-year-old sensation on the bench and waiting to unleash him whenever called for or when all else failed. When was the last time we had that?

Lazio president rues the loss of Macheda to Manchester United

Lazio's president Claudio Lotito has called for a change in regulations to prevent homegrown players such as Federico Macheda from moving abroad.

The Manchester United reserve came to prominence yesterday when he came off the bench against Aston Villa to curl home a brilliant stoppage-time winner in United's 3-2 victory. The 17-year-old's performance came of little surprise to Lotito, who is still upset that their former trainee was allowed to move to Old Trafford aged 16 in September 2007. It has also emerged that Macheda should have been on duty with Italy's Under-19s at the weekend but United's manager Sir Alex Ferguson stopped him from going and put him on the bench for the Villa game.

"We tried in every way to stop Manchester United from taking away our player but the present Italian regulations don't give you any type of defence," said Lotito. "In reality we find ourselves in front of a proper cattle market.

"I talked repeatedly with Macheda's parents, we established a dialogue, but it was not possible to do anything. We could not compete with United's offer. That is not right, we have to be provided with more reliable and concrete rules than those which govern Italian clubs."

Italian clubs are prevented from tying a player under the age of 18 to a contract.

I think Macheda needs to play for the acedemy next game. We need to keep his feet on the ground.

We all need to remember that he's still a long way away from making it here. At the same time if he has a shocker next gameit dosn't mean he's a 1 hit wonder.

I agree with the fact that an 8 minute or so performance and a goal doesn`t make it or break it.
BUT, if he gives a reason to Ferguson to play him a small number of matches with the first team, then i say go for it. Ferguson knows how to take care of this matter, he has faced with these situations for over 20 years now .. Playing with the first team does not means we are showing him that he is one of the best .. Its the opposite in my opinion - We will be giving him a taste of how big football feels like, a hunger to improve even more to be playing with those first 11 in the future yet we`ll make sure he makes everything right .. and he`ll get there - he will, maybe even sooner than we may expect.

I would say perhaps yes and no.

    Yes, as you said.

    No, as:

    1. He has already proven himself in the Reserves. Perhaps it is the time for a senior breakthrough, never mind the age?

    2. Could be the perfect time to do it after his match winner, by at least elevating him to sit on the bench?

    3. Nani was, at one time, coming up very slowly but nicely until he was benched again. He is currently back at the starting line?

But guess Fergie knows best so let' see...

I actually had a day-dream with about 15 mins to go about the ball falling to Macheda from about 12 yards out and him smashing it into the net and could hear the commentator shouting "MACHEDA!"

Anyway, it was a fantastic goal and I was very impressed with him when he came on. However, we shouldn't put too much pressure on him and judge him on that one performance so hopefully he can push on and make it here.
