Ben Whiteman,Otis Khan,Josh Brownhill,Luke Daly,Shaquille Antoine-Clarke all weren't offered contracts and went to another clubs (Whiteman,Khan to Sheffield Wednesday,Brownhill to Preston,Daly to Burnley,Antoine-Clarke to Rochdale). You can remove their name from the list.

Matt Musialowski has left the club. I think he is playing for FC United of Manchester now.

BTW, Adam Savill, Zach Dearnley, Sam Smith, Travis Johnson and Ro-shaun Williams were born in 1998. Faustin Makela is a year younger than them.

The OP is updated. Van Persie and Büttner are in our ranks now.

I think Fergie is being very clever, now the squad must be manipulated each season according to the rules about a certain number of the players being British-trained, and only 25 being over the age of 21 at a club.

If you look at the cohort he has been buying, with the exception of Van Persie and Young being more Premier League experienced, he's got Büttner, Kagawa, Hernandez, Smalling, Bébé, and De Gea in recent transfers, who are all born between 1988 - 1990. Then you have players who have come through the United ranks (Amos, Cleverley, Evans, Welbeck), and earlier signings (Anderson, and the Da Silva twins). Suddenly half the United first team squad were born in a three year window and are all now in their early 20s. They have the potential to form a very complete team for the next five years at least.

At the older end of the squad, you can see that Giggs, Scholes and Ferdinand (now the only 3 of the team born in the '70s) will go over the next two seasons. Berbatov may even move in the next week. Then beyond that you have the Evra, Carrick and Vidic trio becoming the older statesmen. The cohort of Van Persie, Fletcher, Lindegaard, Young, Valencia, Rooney and Nani represent the bridge between the end of the Ferguson era, and the beginning of whoever takes over the reigns at Manchester United.

that has always been the strategy from Fergie to have a good mixture in terms of age groups....

If I remeber correctly the home grown rule is little more specific than just 8 British-trained players in the 25 man squad. I think the split is that 4 of them has to be home grown in the club and the other 4 in any British club. The way you become home grown is that you have to have spent 3 seasons in the club before you turn 22. If you don't have enough home grown players, then you have leave a spot open. For example if you have only have 2 home grown club players, then you can only 23 players to your squad, provided that you have at least 4 British home grown players.

Our A-list contained 25 players already,so if we want to include Henriquez (we can't include on list B because he hasn't been on the team for more than 2 years).
B-list can be added at anytime, so it's not much of a concern. But yes, we can conclude from the squad list that Petrucci,Wootton,Brady,Thorpe,Bebe seems will head out on loan.

so of the 43 players currently with a squad number (excluding those away on loan) and including McGinty who is back from loan early, 33 are in the CL squad

    prem - 24 overage(not including 2 overage away on loan...Amos and Fabio)...+ 19 u21 = 43

    cl - a list: 23 overage(Bebe excluded)...+ u21 Jones(14 months at club) and Powell(2 months at club) = 25
    cl - b list: 8 u21
    cl - total: 25 + 8 = 33

the 10 players not in the CL squad:

missing out on A list - overage Bebe and u21 Henriquez(0 months at club) and Veseli(7 months at club)
missing out on B list but can be added at any time - W.Keane(currently injured - likely to be added Feb to May CL squad), plus Wootton, Brady, Thorpe, Blackett, Petrucci, McGinty(I'm assuming McGinty kept his squad number after he was listed with no number at the start of the season due to his loan which ended early...he is now back at United)

lower league transfer window opens up again on Sept 8 this Saturday so it will be interesting to see how many go out on loan

Bebe may go on loan, but if not he is still eligible for the Prem and Capitol One Cup and FA Cup and u21

Not sure why Henriquez has not been officially unveiled and listed with squad number 21 unless I missed it, and maybe he will be loaned out too...edit his confirmed signing, registration and squad number 21 was confirmed early september

It looks like for this season Sir Alex is working with a main squad of around 28 players...we just have to hope United have more luck on the injury front this season, particularly in defence...if they can sustain just a normal injury count this season rather than the decimation of last season then United will have a great chance of winning a trophy or two

With van Persie getting number 20 and Fabio currently on loan without a number I could see van Persie getting the vacant number 9 next season and Fabio coming back to claim his number 20

for next season if Giggs and Scholes retired, Bebe sold, Fabio and Amos come back, and Jones becomes u21 for both Prem and CL squads as he would have been at United 2 years...this would mean there are 23 overage players in Aug 2013, with Powell and Henriquez making up the 25 man CL A list as they would be u21 for Prem but still only qualifying for CL A list, having not been at the club 2 years...the players becoming overage for Prem in 2013-14 are Macheda, Wootton, Petrucci, Brown and Veseli, and I could see almost all of them not reaching the United overage squad at that stage and being sold...so for 2013-14 if Scholes, Giggs, Bebe, Macheda, Wootton, Petrucci, Brown and Veseli are gone there will be no free overage spots for new players(unless players are again excluded from CL squad), but any other overage players sold or loaned would result in overage spots opening up...and someone like Amos could again free up a spot via a loan or via being sold...so its likely 2 or 3 new overage could come in during the summer of 2013

with Giggs and Scholes coming to the end of their careers it would obviously be great for those guys to go out on a winning note
