Transfer news Phil Jones Manchester United beating Liverpool Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham to £16million Blackburn defender EXCLUSIVE - News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

£16 million is a bit much but I would not complain if we paid £12

I'd destroy my jocks if we signed him...Absoultle class act and will be a great defender a few years down the line...Him and Smalling at the back would be solid as ****

This lad is the real deal. I saw him play for Blackburn U18's quite a few times, and he always impressed. He's solid defensively and is fairly comfortable when in possession of the ball. He's bounced back well from that serious injury, I think it was a knee injury.

I'd much rather sign him than Rodwell.

surely we could sign both of them ,.

jones is a class act , not too sure if he`d be happy playing less regularly .

£16m is NOT too much at all, if Henderson is £20m+ players, this kids worth £25m...

However i would think hes a target to replace Hargo more than Ferdy

His primary position is centre-back and we have 5/6 (if Brown stays), two of which are young. Evans deserves a chance to redeem himself after this season's shakey form too. It seems we would only buy him to stop Liverpool or Arsenal from doing so.

Yeah, very assured on the ball, easily could be a midfielder full time

Seen him play, looks good and would probably be a good player for us, maybe it's him instead of Rodwell then.

would only want him if he's going to be spending most of his time in midfield for us, if that's the case it's a good deal for such a promising youngster...

Him and Rodwell are very similar, this Varane kid sounds similar too, so chances are its one of the three...

Jones and Sneijder would work wonders in midfield...

I'd be fine with Varane or Jones, but I've seen more of Jones and I think he'd be a great guy to eventually replace Rio!

Phil Jones looks so composed for a young defender and doesn't have "helicopter arms" which many young defenders do. 16m would seem a lot, but he's received a lot of attention. I'm glad we were able to sign Smalling before his talent became any more apparent. You can see how Fergie is planning for the future. Brown is probably on his way out, Evans has actually declined and looked so unsure of himself last season. Rio's getting older and is frequently injured.

Smalling , Vidic, Rio and Jones with Evans as a backup or even sold to make space would probably represent the best centre backs of any team in Europe I would dare venture to say.

A concern for me would be Jones' lack of height. He's 5'11", which is smaller than Vermaelen, so will need to be paired with Smalling or Vidic who can dominate aerially.

Lack of height? Ive always thought of him as a bit of a monster, especially in midfield...

And yeah, id take him over Rodwell, if only for his better fitness record...

James Ducker of The Times just tweeted that Jones might be having a medical at Liverpool today!

Might be rubbish but who knows.

    5'11??

    He's a big 5'11 then.

5'11 is tall enough for a DM anyway, which I reckon he might be moved into.

    That would be a shame.

Would be great news. He already plays with Smalling for the English U-21's. Great potential.

I'm not worried about the perceived lack of height tbh, Cannavaro isn't the tallest and he had a passable career.

If he ends up at Liverpool, I'm really hoping Fergie doesn't let the ball slip on any other potential transfers. I actually agree with this Liverpool policy of buying young, English talent. Jones fits that bill perfectly.
