I think it must be SAF just showing an element of caution. We haven't been playing well so maybe he doesn't want to introduce Pogba into that pressured environment just yet.

He certainly needs more playing time than he is getting to just keep him interested

If that's the only reason to play him - then what's the point. Either he's in on merit, or we stand him aside for the next lad to get a shot (Morrison) If Pogba's heart isn't 100% committed to the United cause - then f*ck him off somewhere else.

    Simple as.

Yeah, this. If he's just going to be a mercenary, then he can f**k off to City, or Milan, or anywhere else, and leave the real footballers to develop the United way.

Still, I don't quite believe all the hype, I suspect he'll have signed a new deal before long. Who can say though in this crazy football climate.

Added : also, can't say we'll really be hugely surprised if he DOES go on a free, after the way we basically nicked him from le Havre!

Deal him in! Paul Pogba next on Manchester United list | Manchester Evening News - menmedia.co.uk

Paul Pogba is the latest Manchester United young gun Sir Alex Ferguson wants to tie down to a long-term deal.

The highly-rated French midfielder is seen as the future at Old Trafford after making such an impressive impact with the academy and the reserves.

The 18-year-old is considered one of the hottest properties in Europe, with a host of the continent’s top clubs ready to swoop if he becomes available.

Italian giants, Inter and AC Milan have already been linked with a move for Pogba, while Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was keen on him before United signed him from Le Havre in 2009.

Ferguson has sought to secure the futures of several of his current starlets, handing new deals to Javier Hernandez, Tom Cleverley and Chris Smalling in recent months.

And the United manager has already stated his desire to keep hold of a player who has been likened to Patrick Vieira as a midfield enforcer.

United did not reveal the length of Pogba’s contract when he signed in contentious circumstances from Le Havre – but Ferguson revealed in August that he still had two years to run on his deal.

Ferguson is planning beyond his reign at Old Trafford and is keen to ensure his successor is left with a top class squad capable of preserving the club’s Premier League dominance.

Key to that is keeping hold of United’s emerging talent – notably the most promising members of last season’s successful FA Youth Cup winning side.

“I believe in young people,” he said. “You need a foundation at a football club and that is vital.

“You can build a first team, but you really do need the back-up and the foundation to make it a football club.”

United were heavily criticised by Le Havre when bringing their star prospect to England – but were subsequently cleared of any wrong-doing by FIFA.

Ferguson believed he had discovered a gem in the elegant midfielder and plans to integrate Pogba into the first team this season, including him in the Carling Cup wins against Leeds and Aldershot.

In the summer he said: “We’re quite positive about him. If we hold him back, what’s going to happen?

“He’s going to leave in a couple of years’ time when his contract is finished.”

get him signed up, sealed and then give the lad some games, he is definitely one for the future and can become a regular, definitely a talented player. No one is having him, he is staying put (well im hoping so)

I said it would happen, and indeed it has. CaughtOffside is trying to claim that City are ready to entice Pogba over to Wastelands. Hardly the most learned source - but I knew someone would try it.

It's an obvious risk but I can't see him going to City if his problem is a lack of games. As a young midfielder City is an effective way to kill your career.

Money could definitely entice him to join City though.

SAF has long back reiterated that there is risk of losing him if we do not provide enough chances ... citing examples of Rossi and Pique... rely on SAF to close this with Pogba very soon and rest all on going rumours

    Hey all,

Been a while since I've been here. Had a q to why he's leaving. Ive read all sorts of conflicting reports, including money (which has me worried). Italian press is reporting Milan are on verge of swooping him up.

Milan: fuori Van Bommel, dentro Pogba | Mercato | Calciomercato.com

As a Milan fan, I go both ways on it. A huge talent is always a plus, but i question our ability to groom him, and if he is leaving for money, what does that say of his work ethic/desire to get there?

Apparently Mino Raiola (Zlatan's agent, Van Bommel's agent and in general a bit of a slippery guy) is working on it as he has close relations with Pogba's agent? I'd worry if he is involved.
