Ok, at first i was against signing RVP, but since we are going to miss out on signing Lucas Moura, let's go hard after Van Persie.

Fergie, sign him up, Fergie Fergie sign him up!!!

He is one of the best strikers in the league. But when considering age, injury record, transfer fee and wages I don't think it's in our best interest.

We would play sexy football with Scholes, Kagawa and RVP through the middle though!

all depends on whether Wenger wants £20m or £30m for him.

Personally this time i dont think Fergie would go anywhere near £30m for RVP

According to Sky our senior players believe we will sign RVP and they also mention the MEN report.

I can see only two scenarios that will get Arsenal £30m from here, 1) Clubs like City and PSG fighting over it, 2) Sir Alex acting stupid. And I can't say which one is more likely. :cautious:

How many years left in his contract? If it is only 1 year and RVP has told Wenger he wants to sign for us, I reckon we can get him for less than £20m. Would be similar situation to Jordi Alba.

Manchester United might have missed out on teenage sensation Lucas Moura, who looks set to snub the Red Devils for a move to Paris St. Germain (per ESPN Soccernet), but according to latest reports, they are moving closer and closer to a deal with Arsenal striker Robin van Persie.

The Dutch international has been strongly linked to Old Trafford over the summer transfer window after deciding not to renew his contract at the Emirates when it expires at the end of the year. And according to The Manchester Evening News, United are in the pole position to land the striker.

In fact, they could even do it as early as tonight.

Manchester United have shot into pole position in the race to sign wantaway Arsenal striker Robin van Persie.

Earlier this week Roberto Mancini virtually conceded defeat in his attempts to lure the Dutchman to City and Juventus, the other contenders in a three-way battle, are now thought to have cooled their interest after being confronted with his hefty wage demands.

That leaves the Reds at the front of the queue, and Manchester Evening News Sport understands van Persie could jet in to sign as early as tonight.

The targetman, who turned 29 on Sunday, was photographed training with his team-mates on Monday in Germany where the Arsenal squad are currently on tour. They take on FC Cologne on Sunday but it is unlikely van Persie will still be a Gunners player by then.

The news comes as a fascinating development in the transfer saga, which looked set to fizzle out into nothing after Manchester City and Juventus both withdrew their interest in the striker.

Arsenal's acquisition of Santi Cazorla in addition with previous signings Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski were believed to be enough to keep Robin van Persie at the club—at least according to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger (per The Daily Mirror).

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had previously indicated over the summer transfer window (per The Daily Mirror) that he felt the Red Devils were the favorites to land the 28-year-old striker.

And if latest reports are to be believed, then it seems that the veteran manager might have been right about it all along.

Our friends at Football Manager have run experiments to see how Robin van Persie might fare at Arsenal, Chelsea, Juve or the Manchester clubs.
Robin van Persie has been hogging the back pages since announcing he did not wish to extend his contract at Arsenal, with Chelsea, Juventus and both Manchester clubs among the clubs linked with a move for the unsettled Dutchman.

The Gunners remain determined to keep him at Emirates Stadium, however, and, with that in mind, the boffins at Football Manager have run five experiments to determine how Van Persie would fare at each of his possible destinations next season.

    RVP at Arsenal
Arsenal finish fourth; Van Persie scores 10 goals in 22 games.
Eliminated in first knockout round of Champions League.
    No trophies won.
Van Persie finishes as club's top scorer and third top scorer in Premier League.
Van Persie achieves average rating of 7.16 across season.
He forms good partnership with Lukas Podolski, who scores six goals in 29 games.
Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere provide many of the assists, but Van Persie misses three months of season with torn calf muscle.
    RVP at Man City
City finish second to United despite racking up 90 points, as United finish on 94.
Van Persie makes 46 appearances (36 starts), scoring 22 goals.
His strike partner Sergio Aguero gets 15 goals in 43 games (42 starts).
City win the FA Cup but lose to Barca in the first knockout stage of the Champions League.
Van Persie finishes as the club's top scorer with 15 league goals.
Arsenal finish fifth without Van Persie and don't win any trophies.
    RVP at Juventus
Juventus finish 4th in Serie A and win trophies.
Van Persie makes 33 appearances, scoring 15 goals.
He achieves an average rating of 7.43 across the season.
He is named Serie A Player of the Year, Serie A Foreign Player of the Year and Serie A Fan's Player of the Year.
Van Persie suffers no injury and scores eight goals in 16 Serie A appearances.
    RVP at Chelsea
N.b We took the decision to remove Torres from Chelsea to give RVP a fair chance of being the number 1 striker.
Chelsea finish second to United in the Premier League but win the FA Cup and Europa League after exiting the Champions League in the group stages.
Van Persie plays 56 games (all starts), scoring 25 goals and claiming 16 assists, eight MoM awards, and achieving a 7.58 average rating.
Van Persie forms an excellent partnership with Eden Hazard, who gets 24 assists as well as 19 goals for himself.
Van Persie scores 13 goals in 34 Premier League appearances.
He finishes as runner-up in the Players' Player of the Year vote and makes the Team of the Year.
    Arsenal finish fifth.
    RVP at Man Utd
Man United win the Premier League and Champions League, and Van Persie is instrumental in their success, making more appearances than anyone else (46) and finishing as their top scorer with 24 goals in the League.
He achieves an average rating of 7.59 across the season.
Van Persie finishes as the second top scorer in the Premier League and is runner-up in the Footballer of the Year vote.

Well, I'll believe it when (if) it happens. But I'll bet (I'll never bet taglines or avatar because they're too important to me) he will NOT be unveiled as a United player tonight.

Would be stupidly cool if he signed on the pitch prior to the Barcelona match though!!
