*beware* Old man rant... So far we've lost Ravel and its looking like Pogba and maybe even Fryers may follow... I might not all be down to money - but what's getting into these kids' heads to make them think and act like they're ready for the big time when they've not long stopped wetting the bed...? Agents? ''Friends''? The Rooney situation? Might not be breaking any new ground as far as what's been posted in the individual threads, but still....
rule number one if you are 16, and talented... do not sign for manchester uniteds youth setup our first team stakes are too high, and taking a chance on an 18yr old in the league is far to risky look at Jones at blackburn... if he was in our youth setup, he would still be in our youth setup. but they dont have the resources to stock pile talent, so they almost had to bleed him in if you're genuinely good enough, you will make it...
Young players have their eyes on the money. They think just because other world class players are on a massive amount of money, because they play for Manchester United they can demand whatever they want, and they'll soon learn that they can't when they get told to f**k off.
I reckon hype has a lot to do with it, sections of supporters get very carried away with performances and ability shown in reserve games and label this or that player as the best prospect in X years etc. Whether it maybe true or not the hype begins, agents get wind and build it with the media, the players begin to believe it and start to be convince they actually deserve the wages their agents are demanding and if the club doesn't meet those demands in the player's mind it means they don't rate them as highly as they think they should. At the end of the day whatever happens will be for the best, we don't want players that don't have the primary desire of playing for Manchester United.
It will never happen, there will always be players that want to play for United. In recent times Smalling, Jones, Young and others rejected better offers from other clubs because they want to play for United. If we wander from that and don't stick to our guns, we'll end up losing our identity as a club and just be a collection of players gathered together, rather than a team that are willing to battle to the last minute.
I agree 99% - but there's always the possibility that we were the biggest club in the the race for these players anyway...
agree... what you have now, today, is certain players in the youth/reserve setup who were behind ravel/pogba in the pecking order, all of a sudden have their route to the first team made a hell of a lot clearer... and they'll now try twice as hard to actually take that opportunity football, as a worldwide institution, wont cease to exist without ravel and pogba... i know its a cliche', but there are 'more than' plenty of fish in the sea
I think don't believe what you read? Nobody knows what's going on with Pogba or Fryers, so stop talking ****! On the Ravel situation, I was gutted when he left. But looking back I think it was 100% the right decision, and to be honest how he lasted at the club so long is an even bigger miracle. I don't think his agent should take any blame. He crossed the line too many times, and no matter how much talent you have, it shouldn't be tolerated.
Roy Keane was right when he said that a lot of players in general are too concerned with the money, fame and all it brings as opposed to living to play the game because they love it - or love winning. But in general the youth of today lives in a handout society where you get given everything on a plate - or if you're not, then you have a right to complain about it. And of course, you have the agents and the "yes men" who attach themselves like leeches - trying to feather their own nests. I happen to think that the PFA should actually represent young players until they're 25.
Yeah, but he was spot on. I know he himself held the club to ransom, but he always sweated blood for this club.
Football is more volatile now in terms of finances and players. Most players weren't taught the values of patience and loyalty, only the dark morals of money and fame. In terms of our situation with Pogba, let him leave if he really wants to. I refuse to let him hold the club for ransom.
Do you know what? Personally, I think it's partly the fact that all the youth football gets televised these days. MUTV shows every reserve AND academy game, the FA youth cup highlights many potential stars (Pogba and Morrison being, of course, prime examples of this), and trophy's like the Milk Cup help raise the profile of academy level football. 15 years ago the most you might have seen was a players name on a scoresheet somewhere. Jovan Kirovski, Terry Cooke - the only time most people got to see these guys play was in a fleeting carling cup outing. Nowadays? You can name Jack Barmby's favored foot, position, you can see all the goals he's scored. It's an opposing scout's wet dream, as Manchester United are reknowned for finding these guys, and they can just watch these games, tap up the players, and then fill their heads with numbers.
It's the new generation, it's ****ed. Kids these days are just ungrateful turds. Morrison showed no respect so he was shown the door and Pogba is going to follow, even after Ferdinand has tried to help him and talk to him about how important it is to stay with United. It's also got a lot to do with money, if your an 18-year old and getting offered some good cash, your most likely going to take it.
It is frustrating watching your most promising youngsters turning their back on the club. Pogba was pushing for a place in a position we are overloaded with players, he was always going to struggle. That being said we have handled both of them badly. Fergie has stuck in the safe zone and it has cost us two very talented players. Money issues or not, if those two were getting some gametime they would still be here imo.
It certainly is a part of it but opposing scouts have always had access to young players at reserve and academy level. I think it has a bigger effect in raising the player's profile to the general population, which leads them into thinking they're further on than they actually are. ---------------- Fergie has handled both Rav and Pogs correctly, I don't think they were quite ready to jump into 1st team football and pandering to 2 kids that haven't done squat is not the kind of bad precedent he needs to be making again. Rav hasn't been close to he debut for WH yet, next season probably would of been their breakthrough season with us.
my take is that when we let go off Morrison, I thought we would do all to keep Pogba for sure.... losing two talented players is a big loss for sure ...
