    In the past week Manchester United have signed Robin van Persie and yesterday left-back Alexander Büttner, who plays for Vitesse, said he was on the way to the city for a medical ahead of a transfer which has been agreed between the two clubs.

    That was expected to be it for Manchester United but the name of Hector Herrera has popped up again. On the same say the Robin van Persie transfer was revealed, the largest Mexican sports outlet El Universal said that the Old Trafford club have been in touch with Pachuca with regards to Hector Herrera who is a midfielder.

    He's 22 years old and was part of the victorious Olympic squad which won the tournament this summer in England and he started the gold medal match against Brazil. It was quite a strong link as the claim originated from Andres Fassi, Pachuca president, and came with quotes. He said that United, along with Liverpool, had sent scouts to watch Herrera.

    Last night as part of a report on the player Calciomercato claimed Manchester United expected to complete a deal for him before next weekend but that Liverpool still hadn't given up. The reason an Italian outlet would be interested is that Udinese were chasing him and were confident, until the English clubs came in and made any move to Serie A unlikely.

    Hector Herrera wouldn't be available until mid September as he's currently recovering from a minor knee injury.

    I thought this thread is about Ander Herrera, I'm extremely disappointed.

    Signing Ander would make this the best summer window ever. Such a player to complete our team. Imagine him next to Carrick, so aesthetic!

    wow what a dramatic 10 days to go before the window closes ... still pending the announcement of a striker who presumably has completed his medical (Henriquez) .. then there is a Left Wing Back on his way for the medical (Buttner) and then there is a loan talk for a Brazilian legend (Kaka) and now this ... what the hell is happening

    Why? Why the f**k can't we stop pissing about buying players "with potential", and get an out-and-out DM?

    I was trying to think of the answer for most of the summer. It made my brain hurt, so I stopped, but no-one else seems to present a good enough reason either :(
