As the titles says, what would force Fergie to finally open his ******* eyes and realize that we need new midfielders? (Or to use our youth)

Right now, we're without 'arguably' our best two midfielders, and the only fit midfielders we have are Carrick, Fletcher, Giggs and Gibson. And despite that we all know that Fergie is not going to buy in January nor that he will give Pogba his chance.

What on earth could happen that would convince the stubborn old man to buy midfielders?

It's a sad thing to say really but I don't think any problems with the squad can change his mind. He's way to stubborn and down right refuses to play the transfer game. All the signings of late have either been made because the player was available at a discount or his hand was forced. Unless any players he see fit becomes "available" during his last years here I don't think we'll see that many signings.

I don't think we can say say that Tom or Anderson are our best midfielders really, Untill now fletcher has been building up some fitness. Remember he was practically first on the team sheet last season and we were all singing praises for him.

I think SAF would only buy in the midfield but seriously who would you buy right now that is available, well priced and not cup tied. It's a ******* hard task these days with city and Chelsea about. You can rarely buy good quality talent that's ready to play at a high level for under £30m

Ivan Rakitić one of the best midfielders in La Liga, was available last January for £1m

It would take another trashing this season or failure to defend our crown. I am half serious.

For me, it seems as if Fergie is extremely selective about who he bring into the team. Take example...Luka Modric. Once Luka was deemed unavailable by Spurs, Fergie disregarded the idea of bringing in anyone new,so it's not just that he is neglecting the importance of strength in the midfield, it is just that he is very choosy and very strict about the signings that he makes. Problem is, im not sure if Fergie recognizes that there is quality talent in Europe that would fit well in our side. Maybe over his tenure at United, he's been doing things the same way, seeing that they work and just sticks to it as if gospel. But football has changed. Barca have revolutionized football, and most of the top European clubs are following suit. Notice that the strongest clubs have a above average midfield because in football, midfield is where everything happens, positive or negative. Just hope he gets a jolt and get things moving for us. Looking at it long term and our recent string of results, I fear for the worst.

    RESULTS-

the fact we've kept winning trophies has masked over the fact we've been playing a lot of average/sh*te football in the last couple of seasons- (compared against the best in Europe)

if we win fck all this season & continue the patchy form Fergie will come under real pressure -

Barcelona are winning regularly, and easily the best side in the world, also a side that isn't exactly rich, and they have their own debts, yet that doesn't stop them from looking forward to improve their squad. Either by promoting youth players or signing proven talents.

IMO it seems UTD Board / Fergie have accepted that Barcelona/Madrid are in a different league to us-

Had we outplayed Barca in the same way they've outplayed us it would have been a crisis, it wouldn't of been tolerated, changes would have been made either in playing staff or the manager. Look at Madrid, from what I've seen of them this season, they made the signings & look to have caught up where as we've done fck all-

likes of Madrid/Barca don't talk about players they need & want "not being available" they make it happen. UTD don't.

Even the likes of A.CMilan have tried to improve despite being Champions.
Taiwo, Mexès, Aquilani, Nocerino, El Shaarawy and Mattia Valoti.

I have a feeling that it might take a very bad season by our standards (ie. no trophies, going out of Europe early, finishing a long way behind the champions in the league) for Fergie to bite the bullet and realise that things need to be changed. It's not being overly-critical to say that we need some creativity and ball retention ability added to the midfield. Can EVERYBODY be wrong?

Nobody can say that we don't have the money to reinforce if we need to. That's a myth that has been burst several times. We don't have City's spending power. Of course not. But we spent a shitload on Phil Jones last summer even though we didn't really 'need' him. That money could have went towards somebody in midfield. Not to mention De Gea for £17m. If we'd have been that cash strapped we'd no doubt have spent a fraction of that on an experienced stop-gap.

All I hear from people at the club is "Who out there can improve us?" I mean, are these people serious? It reeks of arrogance and is completely laughable to suggest that there is nobody out there playing right now who is good enough to improve our midfield.

I think of the days when we had THE best midfield in Europe in it's prime:
Beckham----Keane----Scholes----Giggs. With the likes of Nicky Butt on the bench to fill-in.

That midfield had it all. It makes me sad to see what it has evolved into.

I honestly believe that we aren't that far away from being a top contender for every trophy out there. We have a good core of players at good ages. But some parts of the team are woeful and let us down time and time again. All it takes is one or two of the right additions to improve things and also, if these players are the right players some fo it will rub off and it will help the performances of some of those who can't do it by themselves.

Going out of Europe against Basel or City opening up a gap of more than 10 points by mid January will make him do something.

If the current team isn't good enough, then accept a period of transition and start giving more games to the likes of Pogba and Morrison.

Replacing the leavers does not give us a bigger squad when Fergie insists on not having younger players anywhere near the PL squad

    OShea + Brown = Jones
    Obertan + Scholes =Young

yeah, give them some game time. I don´t see the reason why GIbson is picked over them.....Yes, they´re young. But they can´t be worse than Gibson. Give them a chance!

the only thing that can drive Fergie to buy is Fergie himself ..... it has been that way at UTD for long time now... i do not think he works on any suggestions from rest of his backroom staff
