I voted Ligue 1 as it is clearly a better quality league with better teams and players than the Championship. It's not even a debate as far as I'm concerned.

The Championship: The Fourth Best Supported League in Europe

    The Players:

A few years back when the Championship was better known as Division One, it was very unlikely to see many International players within the league, unless you had taken players from African nations like Mali and Togo. This season, every single Championship club has at least one full International in their squad, and some teams have key figures for their countries playing at this level. Take Robert Snodgrass at Leeds United, who is a vital member of the Scotland midfield, or another key Scotsman, Craig Mackail-Smith at Brighton, who turned down the chance to play in the Premier League in the close season to join Gus Poyet's revolution on the south coast. The Championship as a whole has a vast range of world renown players from many of the clubs in the league, such as John Carew, Carlton Cole, and Robert Green all at West Ham who, besides the playing staff, have Sam Allardyce at the helm who himself is a Premier League manager who has dropped down a level because the difference in the quality of the football is getting shorter by the year. Another example of the strength in talent in the Championship is Brighton's Vicente, who has over 70 caps for the Spanish national team, and Jermaine Beckford, who joined Sven's Leicester side despite already being the number one striker at Everton.

    The Fans:
On average, the Championship rakes in more supporters each week than many of the Premier League teams. Leeds, Middlesbrough, Leicester and Southampton to name just some of the teams who reach average attendances of 20,000 plus each weekend. This is down to factors including the size and infrastructure of the stadiums the league possesses, which is credit to the teams who can afford to spend the money on such nice arenas to play football in, for the league and the country as a whole. Another factor as to why so many fans turn up each week is the thrilling nature of the football that is played, as every team in the league has the opportunity to claim three points in each match that is played, and so it gives the fans of all teams hope, something that every football supporter needs. The fans in the Championship are hugely passionate and will follow their teams through thick and thin, up and down the country from Middlesbrough to Southampton in order to cheer on their boys.

    The Standard of Football:
Some people would say that the reason more Championship games are shown live on television is because Sky and the BBC are evolving and have the rights to show more games each season. But in all truth, the reason these games are shown in the first place is because people want to watch them, and the growing numbers of matches being shown live is because of the demand for more. The quality of football in the Championship used to be long balls and route one football to the big centre forward who would attempt a shot and once in a blue moon score. However, if you watch the games in the Championship now, you see quality one and two touch football, passes being sprayed from left to right, and moves starting from the goalkeeper and working their way right through the team to create a goal-scoring opportunity. A great example of this was watching Swansea play football last season in their attack towards the Premier League, which had a real touch of style and felt like a continental team. Another team who have gained much credit for this style of football is Brighton, who from League one worked their way through the league last year and stuck to their morals under Poyet, who demanded glorious football and it helped them achieve promotion and start this season in great form in the Championship. Overall, the football you see now is so close to the standard of the Premier League, more and more teams will gain promotion and stay up in the promise land each year.

    Anyone Can Beat Anyone:
As touched on before, the reason so many supporters turn up each week to follow their team is because they know there is a strong possibility they'll see their side win, no matter who is playing who. It's the most unpredictable league in the world for results, as the team who are top of the league can easily be turned over by the side who are bottom. This is shown by the points total so far this season, with 3 points separating 12 teams, and a string of 3 or 4 good results can propell a side from the bottom half to the play-off positions without anyone even noticing them. Something that typifies this is the fact that Forest, Reading, and Cardiff have all made fairly slow starts this season, with Forest suffering the most of the 3, despite these teams being in the play-offs at the end of last season. It just shows how much variety there is in the league and the fact that Southampton came up from League one last year now lead the way already this season is something that we have come to expect from the league of unexpected expectedness.
So there we have it, the best reasons why we love the Championship so much. And for anyone who seriously believes that promotion and relegation could and should be scrapped needs to re-think their calculations, because nothing can beat the excitement at the end of the season in the Championship. Long may it continue.

I would say Ligue 1 is a bigger league as it is still one of the top league in the world along with the PL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Eredivisie.

Sirigu was GK of the year not Lloris

The Ligue 1 team of the year consists of players from just 4 teams.

The Championship team of the year consists of players from 8 teams.

The total attendances don't mean anything. The Championship has 4 extra teams.

If there was 40 teams in the Italian league they would have the best attendance in Europe.

Averages give a much better picture

4 teams, just 4 teams represented in the team of the year.

The PL has 20 teams of which 6 are represented in the team of the year. (roughly a 3rd)

The Championship has 24 teams of which 8 are represented. (a 3rd)

Ligue 1 has 20 teams of which only 4 are represented (a 5th)

    Big difference!

This pretty much sums it up.

If your argument otherwise basically consists of 'the championship has better attendances' and 'the championship's team of the season had a higher percentage of teams represented in it' then you're boarderline insane.

The better a thing is the more people will be attracted to it. More people around the World, not just England or France watch the Championship. Supply and demand, it's a fairly decent measure.

It has a bigger viewing audience is just 1 aspect of why it's better, that article at the top of the thread helps explain the other aspects.

Giving actual reasons that can be backed up for why something is better is insane but saying something is better "just because it is", is not?

Especially when the people saying "It just is" don't even watch it.

Can't believe this is even thread worthy ffs. What next League ! is better then the Russian League because it has 7 teams represented in the team of the year rather then the 5 of the Russian teams in there team of the year and there was once 4 teams playing in League one that were in the premiershi so that shows it's class.

Anyone who thinks that the championship is better then Ligue 1 which has some of the best players in the world playing in it and will have a big representation in one of the teams with a real chance of an outside bet of winning he European championships this summer compared to the championship who has how many representatives in a team as average as the English one?

"I don't believe you. TV Money"
