I know these sort of threads are done regularly, but I was thinking about this earlier on today; what would your World XI be if a club could only have one representative i.e only one player from United, and only one from Madrid etc

    Here's mine:

    GK- Pepe Reina (Liverpool)

    RB- Ivanovic (Chelsea)
    CB- Vidic (United)
    CB- T.Silva (Milan)
    LB- Lahm (Bayern)

    MID- Yaya Toure (City)
    MID- Modric (Tottenham)
    MID- Gotze (Dortmund)

    FW- Messi (Barcelona)
    FW- Ronaldo (Real Madrid)
    FW- V.Persie (Arsenal)

I know its probably not the best of suggestions (the midfield mainly, but I was a bit stuck), but it would be cool to see your line-ups

Having only one representative from a club would make the list very biased, considering Barcelona have pretty much 4 or 5 Top 10 players in the world right now.

biased? But surely if the aforementioned restrictions were applied, it would remove any bias towards a particular team. The fact that Barcelona and Madrid but would dominate pretty much every World XI suggestion is one of the reasons I started this thread. In my opinion it's more interesting, and a lot more difficult!

Difficult, yes. I can't think of a midfield without Xavi or a strike force without Messi.

    Hart (Man City)
    Maicon (Inter)
    Vidic (Man United)
    Martinez (Atl Bilbao)
    Lahm (B. Munich)
    De Rossi (Roma)
    Modric (Spurs)
    Messi (Barcelona)
    Ronaldo (R. Madrid)
    van Persie (Arsenal)
    Cavani (Napoli)

Some of the players picked themselves (Messi and Ronnie being the most obvious examples). But I tried to throw a few different ones in there where I could. Good team on paper. Who knows how good any of these sides would be in practice though: Anybody remember the Real side with Becks, Zidane, Luis Ronaldo, Figo, Raul and Carlos that couldn't win a raffle never mind a trophy?

    Buffon

    Srna?
    Evans
    Silva
    Alba

    Javi Martinez
    Yaya Toure
    Modric

    Ronaldo
    RVP
    Messi

Based on form, couldn't think of a proper right back without sacrificing any of the other players

Completely forgot about Buffon, but from what I've seen of Ivanovic, he does impress me and does score the odd goal.

Ivanovic isn't even the best RB in the league, nowhere close.

Maicon nowadays is not a fraction of what he was. I think Bale broke him - he hasn't looked the same since and has been worse this season.

Ivanovic is at least top 3 in terms of right backs, he really has been immense there for Chelsea this season. They're a different team when they have him, Terry, Luiz and Cole. Any of their depth beyond that is woeful.

2010 called, it wants its full-backs back, other than that, completely agree.

    Buffon

    Alves Thiago Kompany Marcelo

    Yaya Xavi Alonso

    Ronaldo Persie Messi

Vidić have been injured almost all season, otherwise he would take Kompany's place.

Anyone who's not having Alves as his right back must be joking. Same about anyone leaving out Xavi.

I had Lahm, Sagna, Lichtsteiner, Abate etc. all ahead of him but couldn't use them without sacrificing a star player
