Is anyone else as disappointed as me about the fact we let Tosic go?

I'm watching CSKA Moscow v PAOK in the europa league at the moment, and while it's not the best quality opposition (no offense PAOK fans) he's tearing them apart on the counter and looking very dangerous.

This summer, I think it's very likely we'll end up buying a left footed winger, and I personally think it's a gap we could fill (Bale, N'Zogbia and Young's names have all been tossed around) but had we just kept hold of him, perhaps we wouldn't need to.

I'm incredibly annoyed that we quite simply didn't give him a chance. How many first team appearances did he make for us in his time here? Just 5. And only 2 of those were in the league.

I know there were a few pre-season appearances whilst on tour, (and I actually thought he looked quite promising then) but why wasn't he ever given an oppertunity? Many cited that he was only bought to keep Adem Ljajic company, and we let him go when that deal fell through (oh btw, Ljajic is also looking good for Fiorentina in Serie A - as you know, I'm a fan of it) but did we really do that?

That would also beg the question, why did the deal then fall through? some reports suggested lack of funds, but then we went and bought Obertan, Valencia, Smalling, Chicharito, Valencia and others in the following summers.

Even on loan in the Bundesliga he impressed, so I am quite frankly distraught that we never gave him a second look once he was at the club, regardless of the reasons for us signing him in the first place. He's fast, dynamic, has trickery and we've seen that he can put a cross in and take a good shot from the various games he's played for FC Koln and now Moscow.

Is it just me that feels the club let him down a bit? Especially given that he'd almost certainly be an upgrade on the likes of Bébé and Obertan at least (but I don't want this thread to be another 'bash Obertan + Bébé' thread, so let's not stray too deeply in to that area)

    Thoughts?

We had to let him go, he wasn't happy sitting in the reserves, not fair to waste his career.

I'm saying we should have given him an opportunity - we didn't have to leave him go to 'stop him sitting in the reserves' time has shown that he was at least worthy of a shot imo.

Just like Obertan they wouldn't have got too much game time because we continue to play Giggs. Tosic was just around at a hard time, Ronaldo was in and he played with Nani/Giggs on the opposite wing, then Valencia came in and played really well, there just wasn't any room for Tosic, he looked bright but we didn't see him every day in training.

We have plenty of depth on the wings which just happens to be decimated with injuries, with Valencia, Park and Giggs all injured. With Cleverley out on loan too it was tough to foresee any real chances for him here.

More upset we didn't sign Laljic - I liked Tosic, but he was a little too lightweight for the premiership I think. Stunned he didn't get more of a chance to prove himself though.

He was definitely not given enough game time to impress , shame really because he certainly has the ability.

A terrific little player. He's versatile, quick, skillful, retains possession, scores goals and has a quality delivery from set-pieces.

I still don't understand why he wasn't given a real chance to impress.

No, you aren't because I do.

I was impressed with him during the pres-season campaign you mention, and felt that he definitely should have been given a fair chance to prove his worth. I thought the success of his loan deal would have been positive, as it might have led to him being given a chance, but he was then shipped out. If he'd gotten a chance and wasn't very good, then fair enough we let him go. But he didn't get the chance, and I do think that overall we treated him shabbily.

I really think he could have been a big help, as the left wing is the weakest of the two for us. Also, with the problems with our wingers this season he would have been another option.

There's not much o be said that hasn't been said really, But yeah HD he was really hard done by, I don't understand how he wasn't given more of a chance espically when in the few times he was given a chance he did reasonably well for himself, and he played very very well in Germany in his loan spell where every week it seemed he was scoring or setting goals up...

He could have been a valuable squad player to have here at least, and two of our biggest problems he could have solved...a left-footed winger and a player who can put a decent ball into the box from set-pieces on a consistent basis, it's baffling to the say the least and I am a tad bit dissapointed as well as annoyed that you can see he has a bit of class about him but wasn't given a chance, while somebody like Gibson who has failed to deliver time and time again is given all the time in the orld

Wsn't he actually bought as an extra in the Laljic deal? If I remember correctly United really wanted Laljic of the two. I was stunned when they pulled the plug on him.

The whole Zoran Tosic situation was disgraceful. Never got a sniff, always played well in the reserves. And the whole pulling-out of Ljajic deal. One of the only times the club has actually pissed me off.

The opinion with many is that Tosic was bought as a way to lure Ljajic in, it seems that he was doomed before he arrived.
