Jose Mourinho has indicated that he would consider becoming the next United manager once Sir Alex retires. The Inter Milan boss was a huge success in English football during his spell at Chelsea, winning back to back league titles before his relationship with owner Roman Abramovitch turned sour. 7ndqeag398

“I would consider going to Manchester United, but United have to consider if they want me to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson. If they do, then of course,” he’s quoted as saying in The Mail.

Jose Mourinho - Future United boss?

Jose Mourinho - Future United boss?

There’s no doubt he’ll be one of the favourites for the job once Fergie decides to call it a day, but is he really what we want in a manager?

He’s obnoxious, arrogant, egotistical and can never admit when he is fairly beaten. Should we put up with all of his character flaws for the sake of success?

He’s an excellent manager who has won trophies at every club he’s managed, but his teams often play boring football due to defensive tactics and a solid, rather than fluent formation. When he arrived at Chelsea he got rid of the flair players like Damien Duff and Arjen Robben, replacing them with John Obi Mikel, Michael Ballack and Michael Essien. he then set the team up with four central midfielders, one attacking midfielder and a lone striker. Attacks consisted of lumping a long ball up to Drogba who nodded them down to Lampard and Ballack. I don’t want my club to play that kind of football.

United is famous worldwide for it’s attractive flowing football and has been since the Busby Babes era. It’s that kind of football that has earned us such a massive fanbase and turned us into arguably the biggest club in the world. Can Mourinho carry on that attacking philosophy? I have my doubts.

I suppose it boils down to what’s more important to you as a fan. For me, attractive football is the number one priority, with trophies a close second. I’d rather watch some brilliant football through the season and finish trophyless, than play dull, robotic football and win the league. What’s the point in winning trophies if you don’t enjoy watching the football anymore?

Would you take Mourinho as a manager?
