Oh Rob Swire, make it four in a row! How the United physio holds the key to our success

posted on 10/11/09

Since the start of the season (well, since the departure of Ronaldo and the mercenary really), fans around the world have been saying that Wayne Rooney is the one to push Manchester United towards a fourth consecutive league title, or to help put up a decent enough fight.

In my opinion however, I think the man for the job is not Wazza. Not one of the playing squad either. Rob Swire, the United physio is the one who can help us win the league, and I’ll explain why. Our current list of crocked/ injured (whichever term you wish to use) goes as follows:

- Owen Hargreaves (due back soon)
- Rio Ferdinand
- Park Ji-sung

In addition to this, Vida and Owen have just returned from injuries and the latest reports show that Darren Fletcher is currently playing with a broken bone in the ankle, so might require an operation in case he damages it further with a hard tackle. Now, all this considered, and keeping in mind Chelsea and Arsenal’s relatively injury-free squads (and of course their great form in the Premiership), keeping the squad fit is of great significance. We haven’t been playing as well, or even scoring as much as we would like to, so losing key goal scorers like Wayne and Berbatov could spell danger for our title chances.

Our next 4 games in all competitions are Chelsea (A), Everton (H), Besiktas (H) and Portsmouth (A). These could prove to be very tough tests indeed, especially potentially season defining games against Chelsea and Everton. We can’t always rely on our youngsters to fill in and provide ‘Macheda-moments’ like last season. We don’t have the most prolific midfield either, so it pushes forth this argument even further.

Of course we need Rooney to win the league. Of course we need Berbatov, Valencia, Giggs and Owen to win. But, we actually need them around for them to do so. And that’s why we need Robbo in the first place.

  1. £880million owed to bank.
    Losing £2.4million/month.
46 out of 83 private boxes empty at recent game.
    Quadrant above old scoreboard empty.
    Not all STs sold (still?)
    Prices up 50-70% since 12th May 2005.

So Rob Swire holds the key to our success does he? Well better get cracking, son.

  2. Think of success in footballing and not financial terms. Manchester United is a football club first and then (if ever) a brand/ financial organisation.

With football success, everything else will follow.

  3. But without the franchise having any money (slowly this is becoming the case as the owner bleeds us dry) we’ll have no franchise = no football. Turnover is not as important as profit. When will 1 penny of the debt be paid off?

It was reported about 8 weeks ago that we need to finish in top 5 win FAC, s/f at least of CL or we can’t afford to pay the players. Was the Red Top right or wrong?

In footballing terms it’s a game of 2 halves – well it’s now time for our glorious owner to start to play the 2nd half (& quickly as there won’t be any extra time).
