Ronaldo on the fans, Sir Alex and the Premier League

posted on 02/07/09

After completing his transfer to Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo has today given his opinion on the English game and it doesn’t paint a pretty picture.

He reiterated what he has said several times about the tactics of certain teams and he’s certainly not wrong.

There are some teams who know they can’t compete with you on a football level, so they just kick you.

He’s careful not to mention teams by name, but anyone who watches the Premier League every week will know who he’s talking about.

He also spoke of his affection for the club and the fans.

I was a boy when I arrived at Manchester and now I’m leaving a man. This club and its fans will always have a place in my heart

He reserved a special thank you for the manager and also sent a message to those who question his loyalty.

I can never repay the confidence he has shown in me over the years. He made me aware that I would be one of the best players in the world, he gave me that belief. He gave me the No 7 shirt because he believed I could do it justice.

.

It was nice to leave after winning another title, but it would have been perfect to win another European Cup. That defeat really hurt so when people say you don’t show loyalty, I just don’t listen.

I’ve always been a defender of Ronaldo so these words are nice to hear. He has spoken of his desire to play for Real Madrid for years so it was hardly a surprise when I read he was leaving. He gave us six great years of entertainment and helped us to three consecutive Premier League titles and a European Cup and for that we should be grateful. It would be easy to fall into the trap of hating him for leaving us, but as fans I think we’re classier than that.

Ronaldo was speaking to the Daily Mail.

  2. i for one don’t hate the guy for leaving us, in fact more than some people i can see his point of view, it’t the way it happened and his hypocritical statements and behaviour that have upset fans-not the fact he has gone.

he could have handled the whole situation better in terms of what was said and done.

the guy was class and good luck to him, as ever its UNITED that’s important so lets move on.

as for booing or slagging him off when he comes to play at OT…..i for one won’t be screaming and shouting for his head but on the other hand neither will i be shooting my load into the hair of the guy in front of me as i drool like a simpleton.

  3. All i wish is that i can be there at OLD TRAFFORD when he comes back to play. I will certainly give him a standing ovation. That is what he deserves. All the best Ronaldo you have certainly left your mark with the fans,, Sir Alex has reiterated all our beliefs in that RONALDO will be sorely missed, but we will survive. UP THE REDS

  4. He gave us so much, even though he went about it in the wrong way at times with the things he said and his antics. Saying that, it was a pleasure seeing him play in the United shirt, the number 7. He was a genius, the best and will be greatly missed. Without him we wouldn’t have won half the trophies over the past few seasons. Thanks for the memories.
    Viva Ronaldo!

  5. Obviously loved him when he played for us. However, when he publicly announced he wanted to go to RM, then it was over for me. Even though his goals were much appreciated in his last season, it was never the same. He now plays for the enemy. It’s as bad as moving to Liverpool. Yes, I hate him. It’s certainly a loss in what he provides, football wise, but let’s move on. If we play RM, I will shout and swear at him as if he was a Liverpool player.
