The speculation surrounding the future of Carlos Tevez has rumbled on all season long. Many of our fans have backed him fully, both in writing(on forums) and vocally at Old Trafford. the general consensus amongst match going reds was that Fergie should ‘sign him up’, hence the chant. I’ve struggled to figure out why exactly this was and I’m still no closer to finding the answer.
What made me laugh was people went on and on about Tevez’s commitment to the club and desire to work hard and win. What they were doing is confusing hard work with stupidity, and desire to win with instinct. My mate Dave has a labrador that’ll chase a ball around a field for 90 minutes and be just as effective as Tevez.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good player and would do well at a lot of clubs, maybe even the top clubs if he moved to Italy, but his impersonations of recently decapitated chickens were becoming more frequent than the moments where he actually made a difference on the pitch. He has scored some important goals in the two years he’s been at the club, but he never scored enough goals. Hell! Even John O’ Shea chips in with a vital goal every now and again!
Rooney can do everything that Tevez can do. The only difference between them is that Rooney does everything far better than Tevez and he has added qualities that Tevez hasn’t, like vision, passing, a good first touch, all his own teeth, etc.
We’ve already got a far superior player in Rooney who is the heartbeat of our team, I never saw the point in buying a similar style of player who’s nowhere near as good. And to think some people actually believe they’re on the same level. I’ve not heard such stupid comparisons since someone once declared that Liam miller would be the new Roy Keane. It was laughable then and it’s laughable now.
He played on the fans emotions for his own personal gain all season, lauding the “Fergie, sign him up” chants and indeed inviting the chants in the penultimate game against Arsenal. Then we found out after all that stuff that he’d rejected United because we didn’t give him enough time to make his mind up. I’m sorry Carlos but if you were really committed to the club you wouldn’t have needed any time at all, your mind would already have been made up and you’d have signed the contract there and then.
Next we heard he’d ruled out a move to Liverpool because of the rivalry between the two clubs. What a load of rubbish. If that was the case he’d have ruled out a move to City too, but he hasn’t done that because they’ll pay him 140 grand a week, a lot more than Liverpool.
In the end he’s just a master manipulator. At West Ham he said they had the best fans in the world and they loved him for it. At united he said we were the best fans in the world and we(most of us) loved him for it. And when he signs for City he’ll say they have the best fans in the world and they’ll love him for it.
He’s just another in a long line of money grabbing, greedy footballers who I’m glad to see the back of for more reasons than one. But I am thankful to him for turning down the offer, because it means we haven’t wasted money on someone who simply isn’t good enough to play for us. Sir Alex can buy someone who is driven by a hunger for trophies, not by the size of his salary.
If Tevez signs for City he’ll be consigning himself to a career of mediocrity with a joke of a club that’s won nothing for three and a half decades. He’ll probably make less appearances for them too, what with them being in less competitions, so that makes his claims about lack of playing time rather redundant.
He took time out from money grabbing to make the following comment recently.
“Ferguson still believes I will be at United next season,” Tevez told The Mirror.
.
“He thinks I will return. But I know what I want and I know that Ferguson did not respect me as a player. Before Berbatov arrived in Manchester, Ferguson told me, ‘You will still be the starting striker, so be cool’. But he lied to me! That is why I know I will not return to United.
.
“What I want to do next season is score against United. I promise I will not celebrate in front of the United fans but I will shout in Ferguson’s face. You can be sure of that – and it will be one of the most beautiful things I have done in football.”
Then he made this quite bizarre statement.
“If I play for Manchester City I don’t think the United fans will feel I am a traitor,” Tevez told the People.
.
“They have to remember that at least as far as I know I have been thrown out of the club and I have to study the best offers available.”
Of course not Carlos, nobody will boo you. It’s not like you rejected an offer to become one of the top earners at one of the greatest clubs on the planet. It’s not like you’ve said you’ll take pleasure in scoring against us. It’s not like you’ve insulted the greatest manager in English football history. Oh wait…yes you did.
