I appriciate steven gerared,he is may best player in england.I expect he will hold the world cup.He will do more with rooney in suoth africa.Even he will be the player of the year.So,for his moral the law sould not aplly.

Justice was done. McGee should have been done for wasting the courts time. Gerrard should have hit him harder! If Gerrard wasn’t a footballer I suspect that McGee wouldn’t have been too bothered about him on the night and nothing would have happened.

Jury systems are hugely flawed in that the members of the jury usually know very little about the law, and despite being instructed on the law by the presiding officer, they often follow their “instincts”.

In countries where there are jury systems, an accused can usually choose between trial by jury or by judge.

It is a very well known truism in legal circles that if you are clearly guilty, insist on trial by jury, but if you are innocent, insist on a trial by judge.

The reason is simple, you have a better chance of getting off even if you are guilty if a jury is involved than if a judge is involved.

The CCTV evidence is very clear, and very few judges (other than one from Liverpool) would have had much sympathy for an accused claiming he felt “threatened” by a man who had just been hit in the face by one of his companions.

Furthermore, whether the victim was obnoxious or not, that is seldom taken as an excuse or even mitigating circumstances – witness how difficult it is for women in genuinely abusive relationships to claim mitigating circumstances.

This is a very clear case of a miscarriage of justice, and yes, Cantona should, and did, receive a sentence for his actions, as did Duncan Ferguson and others.

Gerrard gets far too many free passes.

He dives as much as anyone in the league, but never called a cheat.

What chance for justice in the UK on this basis?

What a joke, the UK should hang it’s head in shame.

This is an absolute disgrace. That clubs’ captain acts in this manner, admitting to assaulting someone and gets off scot free….whats becoming to this world. United have always dealt with such matters in a decent fashion….we gave Cantona a ban before the FA did…the courts gave him a community sentence. Gerrard attacks a normal person in a pub and gets away with it, absolute disgrace. Well thats it, F the government, F the world, I’m gonna do whatever I like from now on. Well, thats the message that I get from this courts decision. F them all

Totally agree with you Zuco. Regardless of the lad acting the pratt, Gerrard felt his rather huge ego had been dented. The fact his sycophantic crew decided to assault the lad and then Gerrard the coward decided to assault the lad also is disgraceful. Then again Gerrard has got away with similair antics for years on a football field, he clearly feels like on a pitch rules and laws do not apply to him. By the way Liverpool fans you are the last to start dictating over insults regarding disasters, for years prior to Hillsborough you goaded Utd fans over Munich. Like with everything else about your hypocritical fan base like Heysel that didn’t happen. Most knowledgable fans my backside!

Cantona attacked a racist. I can’t defend his actions but that may have been why the sentence was lenient.

I disagree that Gerrard should be in prison, but I do think he was guilty and so does most of the sane world. Community service and/or a fine would have been sufficient.

If it was Gary Neville I’d say the same. If a player is guilty it matters not which team he plays for. Plus I think Nev would have needed Roy Keane to back him up

A Judge and 12 men of the jury found him innocent. by your fuzzy logic Mr Cantona should have done hard labour for his Kung Fu Leap ?

your thoughts only shows that Football bias clouds your judgement, if it had been Gary Neville would you say the same ? I think not.

My mate was recently given a suspended 6 months suspended sentence for EXACTLY the same type of offense – except in my mates case the guy actually said he was gonna kick the hell out of my mate and my mate only hit him once, not 3 times!!! Shocked at the decision to be honest.
