The Man Utd away goal advantage

posted on 27/01/10

Manchester City bring a 2-1 lead to tonight’s Carling up Semi-Final second leg, but how much of an advantage is our away goal?

I knew the Carling Cup had a slightly different away goal rule then you would see in the European games but couldn’t quite remember how it worked, after a bit of investigation the difference seems to be that away goals will only count in extra time, this means that if the we win 1-0 after 90 minutes then we go to extra time. If the score remains the same after extra time then we will progress to the final on the away goals rule.

Fingers crossed we put on a good performance and win by a couple of clear goals, I have a good feeling about tonight’s game (famous last words)

  2. I don’t care for the Carling Cup, but I can’t describe how much I want to see Citeh embarrased tonight. I would love us to play well and knock 3 or 4 past them without reply, just to show them how big the gap is (yet the score didnt reflect).
