£80M Messi Swoop

Sportinglife

Chelsea are reportedly planning an astonishing £80million move for Lionel Messi.

According to the News Of The World, the Blues' billionaire owner Roman Abramovich has authorised the blockbusting swoop for Barcelona's Argentine superstar.

Messi showed his brilliance off to English fans by performing superbly in Barca's Champions League semi-final clashes with Manchester United.

And his bewitching talents could lead to a Chelsea bid that would shatter the world transfer record - the £48million that took Zinedine Zidane from Juventus to Real Madrid in 2001.

Barca are desperate to keep Messi, the darling of the Nou Camp crowd, but a world-record bid could force their hand.

A source close to the proposed deal told the News Of the World: "Roman is convinced Messi could change the whole face of Chelsea and is willing to spend what it takes to get him.

"He has always wanted that type of player. Under Jose Mourinho he accepted the football because it was bringing in the trophies but he got bored. Grant wants to change things but has explained it takes time and a lot of money to alter the style.

"Now is the time for Roman to finance that change. Chelsea are attractive because of the wages on offer and they are in the Champions League final."

What?

Looks like its true... Its on goal.com too...

The mega-money move would obliterated the previous transfer record of ₤46.5 million, set by Real Madrid when they bought Zinedine Zidane from Juventus in 2001.

Barcelona have previously insisted that Messi is not for sale, but the magnitude of such an offer could tempt them into rethinking their position - at least that is what the Blues think.

This news is just the latest development in Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s grand scheme to re-brand the club in the summer, as it has long been reported that he plan an overhaul of the squad come the end of the season.

The Russian billionaire has grown tired with the Blues’ unimaginative football, and manager Avram Grant seems to have convinced Abramovich that heavy investment will be required to bring Chelsea up to the level of Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal in terms of flair and creativity.

Abramovich seems to have enjoyed the way Lionel Messi ran the show at Old Trafford, where only finishing seemed to be lacking in Barcelona's display, and is convinced that is the brand of football the Blues need to be playing.

Indeed, that was why Henk Ten Cate was brought in as well. The Dutchman knows Messi pretty well, and seems to approve of the club's chase of the Argentine.

A source close to the club is quoted in The Sun as saying: "Roman is convinced Messi could change the whole face of Chelsea and is willing to spend what it takes to get him.

"He has always wanted that type of player. Under Jose Mourinho he accepted the football because it was bringing in the trophies but he got bored. Grant wants to change things but has explained it takes time and a lot of money to alter the style.

Lets look at the facts here ronaldo wont leave united because he loves the club and also united would never sell there prized asset . So why would messi leave barcelona ive been to the nou camp and I can tell you stamford bridge doesnt compare . This is a man made club a small club pretending to be big not a mega club like united or barca or even madrid , milan and there not even as big as liverpool . So messi wouldnt leave barcelona for chelsea never .

This is a non-starter.

Messi wouldn't leave Barcelona for the 2nd best team in England. I'm sure he's seen enough of Chelsea to know how boring and soul-less the club is.

The news is total rubbish. Even with £80 Million, Messi would not want to leave. Barcelona is his team and he has no Intention in leaving.

Chelsea Plan Massive Messi Bid

Chelsea are reportedly preparing an astonishing ₤80 million bid for Barcelona star Lionel Messi…

no. cant see that happening. even if messi do arrive, doubt he will adapt. messi, is injury prone. been out injured loads for the past 2 season, realise that? but he is brilliant, no doubt. fantastic, blah blah blah. ran out of superlatives to describe him. but he definitely wouldnt go chelsea. several reasons to back that up.

1. the play in england is far too physical, messi understands that and definitely know with the injury problems he had, though minor ones, he will know he wont adapt.

2. chelsea are too soul-less in their style of football, Messi dont fit right in. even if chelsea wants to play attacking football, they need a near overhaul of the whole squad to come close. as for now, only joe cole and kalou looks capable of the football abramovic wants. Messi would want better teammates.

3. Nou camp is the biggest stadium in europe, chelsea, not even the biggest or 2nd biggest in england.

4. He's not stupid enough to go fight for the limelight with Ronaldo in england. its pretty perfect now, 3 top stars in 3 different top leagues. Ronaldo in england, Kaka in Italy, Messi in Spain.

I would hate to see him at Chelsea cos he will be one of the greatest ever,
arguably better than our Ronnie.
And the last bit about the weather is nonsense.
I hope he doesnt go to Chelsea cos they will be immense with him in their team.
