While Sir Alex's men aim to lift a third European Cup in Moscow, the first United side to win the trophy will be honoured at a black-tie dinner held at Old Trafford.
All members of the 1968 squad will be in attendance on Thursday 29 May for a special event commemorating the Reds' first European triumph, 40 years ago.
United beat Benfica 4-1 (after extra time) at Wembley Stadium to complete the painful rebuilding process necessitated by the Munich air disaster a decade earlier.
David Sadler, who scored three times on the road to the final, said he hopes the present-day trophy is back at Old Trafford for the dinner.
“It would be marvellous if Sir Alex Ferguson's boys could [enjoy] success in Moscow," Sadler told the
Manchester Evening News. "For the ‘68 boys it would be the icing on the cake.â€
Irrespective of the result in Moscow, Sir Alex will be the guest of honour at the Old Trafford event, which will take place in the Manchester Suite. A host of other high-profile guests, including Billy Connolly, are expected to attend.
A similar dinner will also be held in Dublin on Saturday 31 May.
