except from 99-01 whenever we get two in a row we usually cannot win the third. so though i will obviously be sad if United don't win this year i know that it's not the end of the world because they could win next year and the year after.

what do you guys think?

To be honest i said this on my myspace blog, before the begining of the season i didnt get the same feeling i had as last year.

Last year pretty much all the united fans new that our 2008 campaign was going to be special and it was. This year it just felt like its got Chelseas name written all over it and it looks like it too. Im not going to write us off of course but im going to be realistic about it.

I just knew that the players wernt going to be hungry this season. I think Desmondos thread explains perfectly how i feel.

whenever utd does something special and us fans expect them to shine again the following season they always seem to dissapoint.
i think the players get over confident or spend too much time reading the great headlines they made , they step on the pitch EXPECTING to win instead of going out to beat their opponents and the killer instinct is then lost. we have got more than enough quality to beat any team yet when we get into the top 3rd we seem to think any halfhearted ball into the box will deliver us a goal .
well it doesn't we are very strong in the striker department yet they continue not to convince , we get rooney and tevez out on the wings berbatov back in his own half looking for the ball and then we get dissapointed when they don't score .its time to base them strikers in the top 3rd and take the ball to them , nows the time to ditch this fancy dan football and get ruthless which means getting both strikers in the right area and striking , instead of them passing the ball around 50 yards out.

We have won the premier league thrice in a row once and I think we ca do it again but this time it will be the most difficult one. In Chelsea and Liverpool we have two of the most desperate teams to win the premier league. We also have Arsenal's young players wanting to prove a point. We always see teams winning two titles and then losing it the third time. The same has happened to United in the 90s too. If we want to win this time around we'll really need to play well and I hope the players hae realised this after the Hull CIty scare and the Arsenal defeat.

Winning three titles in a row is undoubtably a hard thing to do, but I think United have a squad that is capeable of doing it. Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal will all be desperate to win it after seeing United dominate the league for the last two years, but at the end of the season I still expect to see United and Chelsea in the top two positions.

In the 99/00 season, the season after we won the Champions League the last time prior to '08, we didn't really start to perform until around Christmas time and still won the league, but this time around there are teams who are far more capeable of capitalising on any slip ups we make.

I still expect United to be there or there abouts at the end of the season but we will have to match other sides for hunger as well as football ability if we want to make it 3 in a row for the 2nd time.

There is still a long, long, long time to go; with Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all to come to Old Trafford.

We've got rid of all the really hard aways (barring City, and possibly even Middlesbrough  ) nice and early and now we can go on a long run like we usually do around and after Christmas.

Keep the faith.

I felt the same way before the season, I just think that with us winning the double last season the hunger wouldnt be what it was, I actually think losing the title could be a positive thing thus bringing back the hunger we once had. But generally that always seems to happen to clubs that win everything in a year, they fall the next season. another reason I think we have underperformed is the chelsea scolari signing. I think bringing scolari definitely made chelsea stronger. and lets face it apart from the strikers, chelsea have more depth in every department.

I did say at the beginning of the season three in a row is a big ask , and nothing has changed my mind.
But right from the beginning i have felt we will retain the champions league.
I do not think it is a question of hunger at all ,i think a few of our players performance levels have dropped and i felt we would start poorly , i do not think we have coped with our injuries as well as liverpool and chelsea.
Winning three in a row is very rare and we shouldnt expect to win the league every year
