The minimum requirement for a Premiership winner's medal is 10 games, although the Premier League have been known to give them out under special circumstances. Dion Dublin got one in 1993 after breaking his leg and playing only seven games and it might be the case for Alan Smith, who if he appears in United's last two games, will have only made nine league appearances this season.

Just for the record here are the men who, after 37 games, do qualify for a medal under the rules and their total appearances, either as a sub or in the starting XI:

Wes Brown (21);
Michael Carrick (32),
Patrice Evra (21),
Rio Ferdinand (33),
Darren Fletcher (23),
Ryan Giggs (29),
Gabriel Heinze (21),
Gary Neville (24),
John O'Shea (31),
Ji-Sung Park (14),
Kieran Richardson (14),
Cristiano Ronaldo (33),
Wayne Rooney (34),
Louis Saha (24),
Paul Scholes (29),
Mikael Silvestre (14),
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (18),
Edwin van der Sar (31),
Nemanja Vidic (25).

Here are the handful that won't: Tomasz Kuszczak (6), Henrik Larsson (7), Alan Smith (8).

I hope he'll (Smith) be allowed a medal as he's just one short and I also hope that Henrik's also recognised for the small but so very important role he played when he was part of our squad.

Its a very interesting topic but i have to think if the rule is their it's their for a reason and i no its unlucky for Smith but if he hasnt played the games then in away he hasnt contributed enough, but on the other hand you could argue if he was fit then he would have its a tuf call but it will be interesting to see what happens. Im sure if Mourinho can throw his winners medals into the crowd then im sure they can afford to giv smith one.

Apparently, you a can get special disconsation from the premier league, for those who are only so many off. Im sure they'd allow it, either that or maybe Giggs could give him one. lol:D
