From skysports

Arsenal and Manchester United have joined the battle, and now head the chase, to sign Ghana midfield sensation Anthony Annan, skysports.com understands.

The 22-year-old international spent last week training with Blackburn but that has seemingly alerted a host of other clubs to his availability.

Rovers were in pole position to strike a deal with his Norwegian club Start, but now they look to have lost their advantage.

Arsenal and United have now both made firm enquiries and they will be in attendance when Annan features in the Uefa Cup in Norway on Thursday evening.

Annan is playing for Stabaek - the club he is currently on loan at from Start - against Rennes and over a dozen clubs are ready to check on him.

AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Racing Santander are also keen to land the Ghana star, but he has his heart set on a move to England and it appears as if he will have a number of options.

Arsenal wanted to take the player on trial, but because of his commitments with Stabaek he could not spend more time in England after being with Blackburn.

erm who's he? lol seems like theres alot of teams want him though

The next Essien thats who mate, really energetic midfileder and Essien himself has commented on how good he is, he also prompted Chelsea to sign the young lad up, i would be very happy about bringing this lad to OT having seen him play next to Essien in a few international games, he's better than John Obi Mikel in my opinion.

Playing style
Nicknamed Pablo Aimar in comparison to the Argentine national midfield superstar, Annan combines immense skill with a physical presence that complements his average height. Similar in style to Ghanaian midfield Superstar Michael Essien of Chelsea, Annan is touted as the next big thing to come out of Africa into Europe.

Taken from his discription, off of wikepedia.

Another midfielder? no thanks.

Scholes, Carrick, Hargo, Fletch, Anderson, OShea, Giggs, Rodrigo, Hewson, Cleverly, Gibson......etc.
Retirement soon, Needs back up, too weak, not that good, Fair point, hardly a midfield maestro, can't play centre mid, Fair point, long long way from first team so much so he probably wont make it, wont make it, wont make it.

If he is as good as he sounds he has my thumbs up. Carrick, Hargo and Anderson are the only good Defensive Midfielders we have and Anderson the only good attacker out of them, ignoring Scholes. I would recommend we buy him.

No problem mate, i generally agree with Jazz, we dont need another midfield player, and if anywhere it would be out on the wing, but you have to look at great young prospects, we missed out with Pablo Piatti a few months back, and this boy is another player who could be snapped up for a minimal fee due to him being owned by a very small club, good young player is all im saying. And would be a great signing for Paul Ince, i see a lot of him in Annan.
