Blackburn Rovers & England national star David Bentley thinks boss Mark Hughes can one day be Manchester United manager and that such a move would be a "natural progression" for the Welshman...

Blackburn ace David Bentley thinks his gaffer Mark Hughes has the right makeup to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United boss.

Hughes was an Old Trafford favourite during his playing days and Bentley – tipped for a move to brighter pastures himself – is backing the Welsh boss to slip into the United hotseat in the future.

The England midfielder will come face-to-face with title-chasing United on Saturday and thinks that Hughes can show his managerial credentials by taking the three points that would keep Rovers' InterToto cup hopes alive.

“There's no doubt the gaffer has what it takes to manage Manchester United,†he told The Sun. “Of course he has. It's not even an argument.

“He would not be fazed by big players and big personalities. He could handle them all and take them on if necessary, no problem.

“He's done a great job at Blackburn and, with all the backing you get at United, I'm sure he would be a success.

“I think it would be a natural progression for him. He's been there and done it and commands respect the moment he walks into a room.â€

“I know he will be desperate to beat United. We all want to win, of course – but it won't be more than him.â€

“We have a duty not to let the season fizzle out. We donâ™t want United leaving with a win or even a draw.â€
